The Voice Season 17: The Blinds Wrap Up and the Battles Begin

End of the Blinds and Battles Part 1:

Zoe Upkins sang Angel of Mine by Monica-- I would say she is so good, she just needs to work on breath control. At the age of 16, Zoe sings with a great seal of maturity. Very predictable that she chose John as her coach. Hopefully she'll become available later. As a result, Team Legend is full.

Matthew McQueen sang Someone You Loved by Louis Capaldi-- He might be a dark horse on Blake's team. Matthew picks Team Blake and becomes the last member of his team because he says someone in his family had a dream that he was on Blake's team.

Gracee Shriver from Oklahoma and only 16 becomes the last member of Team Kelly, and also 16, Caroline Reilly was a match made in heaven for the final spot on Team Gwen.

Team Legend: Khalea Lynee vs Zoe Upkins-- The Boy is Mine by Brandy and Monica--

Strange how we saw Zoe perform at the beginning of the show and she has the first battle with Khalea Lynee and they're singing another Monica song. Usher returned to help John advise and made some great points to help Khalea and Zoe. While John didn't flex his creativity as a coach with this pairing or the song choice-- everything worked. Both ladies were great, funny part is that after what should have been an alley-oop for Zoe, John picked Khalea and Kelly and Gwen tried to steal Zoe. This season the coaches all have one steal and one save. Unfortunately, John used his save and Zoe accepted.

Next battle wasn't interesting to me--

It was Team Blake: Josie Jones vs. Kat Hammock-- Take Me Home Country Road by John Denver. Interesting song choice, but these two teens are both have old school vibes. Blake ended up choosing Kat to move forward.

Team Kelly: Melinda Rodriguez vs. Shane Q-- Too Good at Goodbyes by Sam Smith-- Wow, these two are powerhouse vocalists; I think Kelly nailed it with the song choice. They are both clearly gifted and both deserve to move forward and that's exactly what happened. Kelly chose Shane and saved Melinda.

Battles Part 2:

Uneventful episode-- there was really no one here who impressed me.

Myracle has some potential so let's see what happens with her going forward.

Results Advancing to the Knockouts:
Alex Guthrie – Team Kelly
Myracle Holloway – Team LegendMax Boyle – Team LegendCali Wilson – Team BlakeKatie Kadan – Team LegendDestiny Rayne – Team Gwen (Stolen from Team Legend)

Eliminated:
Injoy Fountain – Team Kelly
Elise Azkoul – Team Gwen
Matt New – Team Legend
Elliemae – Team Blake

Battles Part 3:
I loved this first battle between Jared and Will. The two Team Legend singers battled it out on Treat You Better by Shawn Mendes. Jared definitely has the bigger voice and range. However, Will brings style; I found him a little cheesy to be honest, hopefully he can tone that down in the knockouts.
I thought that previous battle was great until Team Blake brought us Ricky and Marina singing Valerie by Amy Winehouse. First off, I love that they totally carved this song out and made it into their own styles. They both have amazing voices, and I agree with Kelly in that they brought out the best in each other. Ricky has this undeniable tone and Gwen said it--- He's a star! Marina is impressive as well and is ready for her big break. I think both of them need to move forward. Kelly hints that she will steal whoever Blake doesn't pick. It doesn't matter though because Blake picks Ricky and saves Marina, and she chooses Team Blake again!

Another battle from this episode that I want to showcase is between Kiara and Royce from Team Gwen. They sang Turn Your Lights Down Low by Bob Marley. Royce is a reggae singer but he was just exceptional in this. The big surprise was how bright Kiara shown in this performance; she was strong and stood toe to toe with Royce. She was his equal in this and they had great chemistry. Blake said Kiara had the higher mountain to climb but Royce just hit his groove with this performance. Gwen picked Royce, saved Kiara, but Kelly stole and Kiara went with Kelly!
Last battle from this episode I want to showcase is another Team Gwen pairing-- James and Kyndal singing I Could Use a Love Song by Maren Morris-- This was totally tougher for James since he isn't exactly a country artist. His voice has such pretty colors in it, and Kyndal's voice is just so charismatic. Gwen picks Kyndal, saves James, but so does John, and the episode ends with him having to choose between Gwen and John.
Results Advancing to the Knockouts:
Will Breman – Team Legend
Ricky Duran – Team Blake
Marina Chello – Team Blake Saves
Jake Hoot – Team Kelly
Damali – Team Kelly
Gracee Shriver – Team Kelly
Royce Lovett – Team Gwen
Kiara Brown – Team Kelly steals from Team Gwen
Joana Martinez – Team Blake
Kyndal Inskeep – Team Gwen
James Violet – Either Team Gwen or Team Legend
Eliminated
Jared Herzog – Team Legend
Steve Knill – Team Kelly
Brennan Lassiter – Team KellyBrooke Stephenson – Team KellyMatthew McQueen – Team Blake
Battles Part 4:
Wow and James actually goes with John! Bad move James!
All-righty, well I watched all those battles and none of them intrigued me-- so there are the results right below.
Results Advancing to the Knockouts:
James Violet – Stolen by Team Legend from Team Gwen
Zack Bridges – Team Blake
Marybeth Byrd – Team Legend
Rose Short – Team Gwen
Jessie Lawrence – Saved by Team Gwen
Eliminated:
Cory Jackson – Team Blake
Dane & Stephanie – Team Legend

The Voice Season 17-- The Blinds, All the Good Stuff!

Make no mistake of it, I have not been as engaged in this season of The Voice. Maybe it's because Adam Levine left. He was so invested and I loved the dynamic between him and Blake Shelton. Blake has very easily become my fave coach over the years. I, like Adam, am not feeling some of the changes that they made to the show.... the block, the live cross battles (which I hear are cancelled, good, they should be!). I am also not liking the arrogance of newest coach John Legend. He is talented but not humble, his attitude with contestants is not becoming.

I have decided to skim these blind auditions and bring you only my picks. These are people who I think will move further in the competition or should.

Episode 2

Shane Q sang Tennessee Whiskey by Chris Stapleton-- This guy is a surprise, unexpected. He is a four chair turn and Kelly ends up coming away with him. He has amazing range, and could go far.

Max Boyle sang Wayfaring Stranger by Ed Sheeran-- Unreal falsetto, I am actually angry that he is on John's team (John blocked Kelly) because he is so good. I loved when he started the song acapella, and he was just so good, that's a hard thing to do.

Royce Lovett sang 911 by Mary J Blige and Wyclef Jean-- Gwen and Royce are just a perfect match. I loved his modern reggae sound. Blake turns for talent, which I love, but he did not stand a chance against Gwen here.

Elise Azkoul sang A Million Reasons by Lady Gaga— Elise will need to work on her vocals but I love her retro vibe. She and Gwen are a match made in heaven.

Cory Jackson sang Galveston by Glen Campbell— Cory is interesting with his tone. Being a country artist and being on Team Blake, admit it, you saw that coming, Cory will go far in this competition. The question is, how far? Is he interesting enough and vocally technical enough?

Episode 3

Calvin Lockett sang Just My Imagination by The Temptations-- Well, Calvin could have gone with the predictable choice and picked John, but instead, he decided to pick Gwen. I actually love this pairing because Calvin has a smooth, technically strong voice and I think Gwen will appreciate having someone like that on her team. She'll be outside of the box with her song choices. this is a good one.

Josie Jones sang Men & Mascara-- I didn't think I would like this. I thought her voice would sound very nasal but it didn't; at 16 she has quite the voice. She is very much like a Dolly Parton. What I like even more about her though is that she is a good storyteller with her voice. John and Blake turned and of course John was no match for Blake.

Marybeth Byrd sang Angel from Montgomery-- Marybeth is 18 and voice is technically pristine. She deserved 4 chairs! Irony of all ironies--- Kelly blocked Blake and then Marybeth ended up choosing John (of all people!). I hope Blake steals Marybeth at some point because she belongs on his team.

Kiara Brown sang Free Fallin' by Tom Petty-- Also loved her! Wow, she is just so stylistically her own. Gwen and Blake turned and Gwen won this one.

Cali Wilson sang Dreams by Fleetwood Mac-- Lots of amazing ladies this year on The Voice! Cali's voice was haunting. John, Blake, and Gwen all turn. She seems to have a connection of sorts with Blake. We'll find out on the next episode who she picks.....

Episode 4

Cali picks Blake!

Not many impressive contestants in this show.

James Violet sang Sweet Creature by Harry Styles-- He has a beautiful tone to his voice, he has this really lovely and subtle vibrato in his voice. It's really gorgeous, the song did a great job of showcasing his voice. Kelly, Gwen, and Blake turned. Gwen said he seems like a songwriter. James picked Gwen

Preston C. Howell sand Dream a Little Dream of Me-- One of my fave contestants so far this season! It is unreal to me that Preston has such a mature vocal at 14!!! I cannot believe it. This kid could win the entire season, but hopefully he doesn't do it on Team John (I'm going to say things like that this whole season cause John is just too arrogant for me!). Blake calls his voice timeless-- I totally agree.

Episode 5

Joana Martinez sang Call Out My Name by The Weeknd-- This is another I cannot believe! She is 15, and to sing that song with such maturity is insane. All the coaches turned except John, she deserved a four chair turn. John called it a near perfect performance, to which Blake replied, near perfect? That was perfect. Joana chose Blake

Brooke Stephensen sang Let Him Fly by Patty Griffin-- Brooke is the real deal, her voice cut through immediately. She is so special, it's essential that someone like her get far in this competition. Once again, everyone turned except John. Brooke should have been a four chair turn as well. Brooke chose someone she called a strong woman in this industry--- Kelly.

Ricky Duran sang River by Leon Bridges-- Ahhhh Ricky is 29 and from my home state of Massachusetts (Worcester to be exact!). Blake said that performance had us from the beginning, as chairs turned you had more confidence, you had great tone and stage presence. Gwen said your performance was so tasteful. Kelly turned because he is storyteller, she would kill for that rasp in her voice. Kelly said I would love to be your coach, you're going to be successful on anyone's team.  All four turned but Ricky wanted to go to that river that Blake talked about. This is going to be a great match.

Episode 6

Ricky Braddy sang The Story by Brandi Carlile--- I am a HUGE Ricky Braddy fan; I remember him very well from American Idol. He has such an amazing voice-- for some reason, he has qualities of a Sam Smith. Blake, John, and Gwen turn. John related to him growing up singing in the church. Gwen said you were singing I was made for you to me. Blake said I am plugged into the music scene in Nashville. Blake said please Ricky, let's let Gwen keep shopping around. Ricky chose Blake

Steve Knill sang Up to the Mountain by Patty Griffin-- Kelly was the only one to turn her chair. I think he is a diamond in the rough. He has a great voice that just needs some refinement.

Khalea Lynee sang Best Part by Daniel Caesar and H.E.R.-- Oh my goodness!!! I love Khalea's voice. she is so good! It's a four chair turn for good reason. Blake shouldn't have given up so easily. He had a chance like everyone else. Kelly talked about he jazzy tone. John said he liked every vocal choice she made. Khalea chose John

I am telling everyone who reads my blog--- these are the people you will see in the live shows. I really believe that. They are that good.

Until next week friends!

The Voice Season 17: Night 1 of The Blinds

I wanted to recap tonight's premiere a little differently---

Katie Kaden sang Baby I Love You by Aretha Franklin-- I loved this! She is so different. Kelly talked about how Katie reminded her of the lead female singer from the Alabama Shakes. This is definitely someone in my opinion who should be around for a while in this competition. This was a four chair turn, Blake blocked Kelly. Sadly it did not pay off because Katie chose Team Legend.

I do have to say, I already miss Adam, the show just does not seem the same without him. I obviously love Blake, Gwen, and Kelly. I am still not used to John.

Jake HaldenVang-- Need to say I wasn't a fan. Blake, Gwen, and John turned. Gwen said she and Kelly thought he was a woman at first from his tone. Jake chose Team Gwen.

Jay Miah-- This drag queen from Tampa performed a song from The Greatest Show. I actually enjoyed his performance. He needs some refining. No one turned but Jay should come back!

Brennan Lassiter sang You Are My Sunshine-- This was a four chair turn and this was a performance! Again, this is someone who could make it to the live shows. Brennan is pure vocal talent at its best. She is a well deserved four chair turn. In my opinion, she should have gone with Blake, but she chose Team Kelly.

Rose Short sang Preach by John Legend-- Rose was a pleasant surprise. I'd argue she did John Legend's song better than John Legend did. This was so soulful and strong. Rose is someone I could see in the lives. Rose chose Team Gwen.

Will Breman sang Say You'll Be There by The Spice Girls-- Will has a unique sound, and there's a freedom in his voice that is really cool. To me, he reminds me of certain people--- Michael Buble, a little bit of Jason Mraz, John Mayer, Gavin DeGraw. He will need to be consistent and study hard to stay in this. I was shocked that he chose Team Legend.

Alex Guthrie sang Love and Happiness-- This is a fave R&B jam of mine. Alex has sold beyond his years and time. What's going to be important for him is honing his skills even more, he cannot sound like anyone else. He had soul but he could have dug deeper and dirtied it up a little more. Alex chose Team Kelly, and I do think she will help him do this.

Kat Hammock sang Vienna by Billy Joel-- I'll be honest-- I don't remember this performance, it wasn't memorable for me. I'm surprised the chairs turned. The performance lacked dynamics for me. I hope Blake can bring it out of her. Kat chose Team Blake.

CJ Washington and Timmy Hood both don't turn any chairs unfortunately.

Marina Chello sang Walk Me Home by Pink-- Marina, you can tell, comes with so much experience. She's a great vocalist and has so much confidence. Her run towards the end of the song was strong. Blake said he was drawn to the power in her voice. Kelly liked that she has 80% more to give, and didn't start out with her best song. Marina chose Team Blake-- I think this is going to be a great match up!

Kyndal Inskeep sang Never Been to Spain-- Kyndal was cool, don't know if I would have used a block on her like Gwen did but to each their own. Maybe Gwen liked her that much that she thought it was worth it. One thing I will say, her tone is real cool, what style she wants to pursue will be interesting because she can go in several directions. Kyndal chose Team Gwen.

Tuesday

Mixedish on ABC @ 9pm-- NEW Series premieres September 24th-- I think I have caught maybe a total of 10 minutes or so of Blackish over the years, but Mixedish intrigues me. Tracee Ellis Ross narrates.

Katlynn Simone plays up and coming star Treasure. Meta Golding is Teri, a woman wrongly incarcerated and Andre's new love. Mario plays Devon, an R&B star at the beginning of his career. Lastly, Wood Harris is Damon Cross, an international money launderer. The biggest news of this season is that it's the last, and the question is-- who will rule The Empire?

This is Us on NBC @ 9pm-- Season 4 premieres September 24th-- I'm just going to leave this video clip right here, it explains it all.

And .... " If you think you know what's coming next, you don't know us".

Emergence on ABC @ 10pm-- Series premieres September 24th-- The trailer for this new series drew my interest, it's a thriller and it's described as "character driven". The investigation reveals a conspiracy bigger than she ever could have imagined with the girl's identity as the center of it all.

New Amsterdam on NBC @ 10pm-- Season 2 premieres September 24th-- The end of the first season left us with a major cliffhanger that producers promise will resolve itself at the opening of Season 2 which will fast forward to three months after the accident. In the finale, Dr Max's wife had a baby girl at home, and following the birth, all of them were en route to the hospital with a couple of doctors and their ambulance was involved in a major crash that producers say will have more than one fatality. The Voice Season 16: The Top 8-- I Want Them to Stay

Team Blake: Andrew Sevener sang Long Haired Country Boy by Charlie Daniels-- Kelly said it felt like we were at his concert. John said we really felt your confidence more than ever. Adam said it was his best performance. I agree with all the coaches-- this was by far his best yet. The song fit him well.

Team Blake: Gyth Rigdon sang God Bless the U.S.A. by Lee Greenwood-- Kelly said this was not my fave vocal for you this evening but I can't really critique this because I feel like I'd be going to hell. Perfect song for him but I actually agree with Kelly, it was not his best vocal.

Team Blake: Kim Cherry sang Together Again by Janet Jackson-- Kim was having fun up there and I appreciate that about her. I see her as more of an entertainer than a vocalist. John commented on what she was wearing. Blake said no one has ever questioned whether or not she is a great vocalist.

Team Blake: Carter Lloyd Horne sang Take Me to Church by Hozier-- I didn't love this. Kelly thought it was a little bit pitchy. She complimented his tone though. Blake said it happens to everyone and he has a fan base.

Team Kelly: Rod Stokes sang Go Rest High on That Mountain by Vince Gill-- Rod brought the emotional performance tonight. He is someone that I hope makes it to the finals. Blake loved how connected he was to the song. Kelly loves his ability to connect with people and that he has a natural ability to move people.

Team John: Maelyn Jarmon sang Stay by Rihanna-- This was the best vocal of the night by far. If she is not in the finale then something is wrong. Adam said she is the frontrunner in this competition and there is no one better than her. Blake talked about her control and poise, nothing rattles her and he is ready every time she gets on the stage.

Team Blake: Dexter Roberts sang Here Without You by 3 Doors Down-- I liked his vocal more than the arrangement. His vocal was awesome. He's up there with Gyth in terms of vocals. Kelly liked hos he stepped outside the country genre with that song. Blake said the song was Dexter's idea. He said your voice is one of my fave country voices I have heard.

Team John: Shawn Sounds sang A Song For You by Donny Hathaway-- Adam said thank you for putting on a singing clinic tonight. You execute everything flawlessly. Thank God for you. Kelly said you have sang your tail off this entire season but that was my favorite.

Top 4 -- My Predictions --

Shawn
Maelyn
Rod Or Dexter
Gyth

The Voice Season 16: The Top 13 Get Close to the Finale

Team Blake: Gyth Rigdon sang Nobody But Me by Blake Shelton-- He is the strongest country singer left on Team Blake. He has a charisma, and although I did not necessarily think this was his best performance, he should get through. John said Gyth carries himself with a star presence. Blake agreed and said he owns the stage and is an undiscovered talent.

Team Blake: Kim Cherry sang Whatta Man by Salt N' Pepa-- Actually thought this was a great song choice for Kim. Kelly said she wanted to hear Kim sing more. Blake said it is interesting with someone like Kim to see what the viewers choose for her.

Team Kelly: Jej Vinson sang Close by Nick Jonas-- This was Jej's best performance in several weeks. I loved how he made the song a little bit more personal for him. Adam said he has a very indentifiable tone and that he has always seen him as a winner of The Voice. Kelly said she sees him as sweet and sexy and would be shocked if he was not in the finale.

Team Blake: Andrew Sevener sang She Got the Best of Me by Luke Combs-- I enjoy Andrew's authenticity but from a vocal standpoint, I did not feel it was as strong as it could have been. John felt his energy and passion was strong but it could have used a little more finesse. Blake said Andrew, you're on 10 all the time.

Team Blake: Oliv Blu sang Smooth Operator by Sade-- This has been my favorite performance of the night so far. I thought Oliv sounded amazing. John said you have everything. Sade's songs sound easy to sing but they are not. Blake said Oliv you sounded absolutely incredible. You embraced this moment and how cool it is, you became an artist on that stage tonight.

Team Blake: Dexter Roberts sang Something Like That by Tim McGraw-- I wasn't that impressed with this performance. Maybe all the country artists on Blake's team have cancelled each other out? I actually like Dexter, but this wasn't his best. Kelly loved the song choice. Blake says he thought Dexter did a great job.

Team Legend: Shawn Sounds sang A House is Not a Home by Luther Vandross-- WOW! What a gorgeous performance; I was smiling from start to finish. This was stunning! Adam said Shawn, you're incredible, your best to date, and best of the night. I think you're unbelievable dude. John said it was an incredible performance, you would be great no matter who you chose as your coach, I'm just happy you chose me.

Team Legend: Celia Babini sang Shallow by Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper--Started out a little bit weird, but it picked up as she continued singing. I loved it. Adam said he misses Celia and will continue to talk to John about her. John expressed how she was initially concerned with singing this song and he thought she did a great job.

Team Adam: L.B. Crew sang I'll Make Love to You by Boyz II  Men-- I have to say, it may not have been a perfect performance but it was a spirited one. Adam said I think you're a true talent. He walks into a room and you just want him to be successful. You always come correct and you do it with all of your being.

Team Adam: Mari sang Foolish by Ashanti-- I absolutely loved this! This was probably my favorite performance of the night. She took this song and did the R&B part of it proud. She stayed true to her roots but she stylized the song in her own way. Adam said this young woman is a super star! You're an artist and it sets you apart from everyone else in this competition. Everyone should be voting for you and you should win this show.

Team Blake: Carter Lloyd Horne sang Let It Go by James Bay-- He is a front-runner on Team Blake. I will be disappointed if he doesn't go through. Blake said some of these fan pick songs make me nervous. You take everything that gets thrown at you and you run at it head on. He said you killed it tonight man.

Team Kelly: Rod Stokes sang When a Man Loves a Woman by Michael Bolton-- This was also a great performance; the fans love Rod. I can totally see him getting through. This was such a strong vocal. Blake said I was thinking dammit, you just keep delivering something more monumental than last time. Kelly said I adore you. You have this God given talent that is so majestic.

Team Legend: Maelyn Jarmon sang The Scientist by Coldplay-- Angelic performance! Maelyn is so gifted. John sang her praises after her performance, and called her the best vocalist in the competition.

The 5 Going Home-- Dexter, Andrew, Celia, Kim, and L.B.

The Voice Season 16: The Top 24 Work it Out

Team Kelly:

Rod Stokes sang Midnight Rider by The Allman Brothers-- Strong performance, this song choice really suited him. He has a shot.

Matthew Johnson sang Ordinary People by John Legend-- Wow, could it be that I preferred Matthew's interpretation of this song more than the original? I think so! A little off key at the end, but I forgive him.

Rebecca Howell sang Wild One by Faith Hill-- Rebecca is a great vocalist, I did not find the song to be memorable and I wonder whether or not she will be memorable to me by the end of the night. I think she's a great singer though and definitely deserves to be here.

Presley Tennant sang Nothing Breaks Like a Heart by Miley Cyrus-- She is one of my fave vocalists in this competition and the fact that she is so young is insane to me. She was so good! I loved that she slowed down the arrangement.

Abby Kasch sang I've Got the Boy by -- Didn't love this, is this the song Kelly was talking about last week? I did not care for this at all. I thought vocally it was okay, but it seemed to be showcasing all the same parts of her voice.

Jej Vinson sang Love Lies by Khalid and Normani-- Jej's stage presence, amazing! He performed and everyone was feeling that performance. The arrangement was like dynamite for his voice. It was soulful and emotional. Wow, loved big time!

Team Legend:

Lisa Ramey sang The Weight by The Band-- Great song, started out great. I didn't feel it held up well as the song went on.

Jacob Maxwell sang Total Eclipse of the Heart by --I am still confused about who he is trying to be here. Not enough left for him to move on.

Jimmy Mowery sang Youngblood by 5 Seconds of Summer-- I did not enjoy this performance. I see him as more pop/ R&B and I didn't think there was any element of R&B in that.

Celia Babini sang The Chain by Fleetwood Mac-- Here is someone who is not confused at all about who she is as an artist. I loved this! It was so authentic, that was incredible (John was yelling that from the audience!)!

Maelyn Jarmon sang Fallingwater by  Maggie Rogers-- The song is obscure, I have never heard it before but it worked for her vocally. However, I was a little bored and she wasn't on her game tonight.

Shawn Sounds sang Higher Ground by Stevie Wonder-- Enjoyed this, Shawn should definitely move on.

Team Adam:

Kalvin Jarvis sang Mine by Bazzi-- That was emotional and gorgeous. I loved that so much.

Betsy Ade sang Are You Gonna be My Girl by Jet-- This was the perfect song choice for her! It did get a little bit shouty though.

Mari sang Work it Out by Beyonce-- This was so within her element. She is so different from anyone else in the competition. I'd love to see her in the Top 13.

Domenic Haynes sang Love is a Losing Game by Amy Winehouse-- Domenic can literally do no wrong in this competition. He took a big risk with that song, it paid off half way. I did not love it, but I love him and hope he moves forward.

Team Blake:

Andrew Sevener sang Boots On by Randy Houser -- Again song choice is a little obscure but I loved Andrew's vocals. My issue is, has he done enough to make himself stand out, I'm not sure.

Selkii sang Iris by The Goo Goo Dolls-- This was a great interpretation of this song. Selkii redeemed herself from last week.

Oliv Blu sang Girl from Ipanema by Frank Sinatra-- So unique from everyone in the competition. Oliv is another standout I love her.

Gyth Rigdon sang I want to be Loved Like That by Shenandoah-- Gyth is someone I always look forward to hearing. I wish he had sung something a little more mainstream but he is a skilled storyteller.

Kendra Checketts-- sang Bad Guy by Billie Eilish-- I did not expect this song choice on her but she kind of killed her performance tonight. She actually has a good chance of going through.

Carter Lloyd Horne sang Heartbreak Hotel by Elvis Presley-- Something about this young man that I really love. He is a throwback for me. He has this cool retro vibe and he does understand who he wants to be.

Kim Cherry sang Waterfalls by TLC-- Expected song choice, she of course wanted to show off how she can sing and rap which is still cool. I thought her rapping could have been stronger but she may have done enough to pull through.

Dexter Roberts sang Ain't Nothing About You by Brooks & Dunn-- To be honest-- fave country performance of the night. I loved this.

My Top 12---

Matthew, Presley, Jej, Celia, Shawn, Kalvin, Mari, Domenic, Dexter, Carter, Gyth, last spot between Selkii, Oliv, and Kendra

The Voice Season 16: Way Down We Go with The Cross Battles

Team Adam: L.B. Crew singing Wade in the Water vs. Team Kelly: Jej Vinson singing Versace on the Floor by Bruno Mars-- WOW! Neither one of these guys deserve to be eliminated. They both deserve to actually automatically advance to the finals for these dynamic performances. Both have killer voices. Adam said L.B. the composure and depth of your voice is incredible, I am blown away. Kelly said you are both so evenly matched. Kelly said if Bruno Mars was hearing that right now, he'd say oh I should do that lick. John said you are both fantastic vocalists. You're both exceptionally talented.

Team Adam: Kalvin Jarvis singing New Rules by Dua Lipa vs. Team Legend: Julian King singing Hello by Adele -- Kalvin just blew my mind. I never thought of a guy singing that song, it was so intriguing and captivating. He commanded my attention throughout the performance. I felt his angst and what he was struggling with emotionally through the lyrics and his delivery. I liked Julian but I didn't understand going between the English and Spanish with that performance. Vocally, he was great. I kind of feel like both of them deserve to stay. Adam said Kalvin that was a front-runners performance. You turned that song on it's side and what you did was truly incredible. John said Julian you made such outstanding choices with how you interpreted Adele's song. Kelly said there are some great singers in this building. I am so floored, y'all are so good. Blake felt like Kalvin took that battle.

Team Blake: Carter Lloyd Horne singing Way Down We Go by Kaleo vs. Team Legend: Jacob Maxwell singing You're Still the One by Shania Twain-- Absolutely in love with the song Carter did. His style is so hypnotic. Jacob is great but that song choice was a little sleepy for me. He played it safe whereas Carter I felt like grew from an artist standpoint. Blake says Carter has grown so much and has such a vintage sound. I'd go with Carter here.

Team Kelly: The Bundys singing The Letter by The Box Tops vs. Team Blake: Andrew Sevener singing Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde by Travis Tritt -- I thought The Bundys got better as they went along. The end was especially awesome. I thought Andrew did great; that song was amazing. Blake said country fans are losing their minds over that performance. I would lean towards Andrew.

Team Legend: Shawn Sounds singing Lay Me Down by Sam Smith vs. Team Blake: Karly Moreno singing Down by Marian Hill -- Strong performance from Shawn, it was off here and there. I have heard that song done better before but that was pretty solid. For me, Karly takes this. Her sound was so different, it was a mix of jazz and folk. I loved this! Adam said Karly you were incredible, truly amazing. And Shawn I have to show you love as well because you were incredible. It couldn't be more different up there on this stage. Kelly said you are totally different vibes; Shawn I think you have a phenomenal spirit.

Team Adam: Kendra Checketts singing Cold Water by Justin Bieber vs. Team Legend: Jimmy Mowery singing Mercy by Shawn Mendes-- Love Kendra's version of this song. She has a gorgeous tone. I enjoy both of these artists; this is tough! Jimmy was a little bit more dynamic but I liked both of them. Adam said I only pray I get to watch more of you Kendra. John said Jimmy you made such great choices today, I am so proud. Blake said I have to stick with you Kendra. Kelly said Kendra I find your tone so captivating. It's really beautiful.

Team Kelly: Rebecca Howell singing Any Man of Mine by Shania Twain vs. Team Legend: Beth Griffith Manley singing I Put a Spell on You by Screamin' Jay Hawkins-- I love the attitude with which Rebecca has when she sings. Wow, she gave quite the performance. That was pretty fierce. Beth was emotional and so good. That was such a stirring rendition of that song, it really moved me. Kelly disliked that they were against each other because both were so good. John said you really gave that raw energy in that song. Blake said Rebecca you were a shock for me tonight in a good way, you took that song to the next level. Beth, what you did at the end of that was great. Adam said Beth you put on a clinic with that song. Rebecca, the shock of the season, you are probably the strongest country singer in the competition so far.

Team Blake: Gyth Rigdon singing Goodbye Time by Conway Twitty vs. Team Kelly: Abby Kasch singing Cupid's Got a Shot Gun by -- Once again, thought both of them were great but I do lean with Gyth. There is something super special about him. Blake said Gyth to see you keep that old school country alive like that, this guy is going to be in the finale. Kelly said Abby when you came out and did this in rehearsals I was floored. Adam said Abby was great and she gave a spirited performance but he strongly believes that Gyth is going to be in the finale.

Fave performances are highlighted above! L.B., Kalvin, and Carter

Kelly has a save and John has a steal

Battle 1-- L.B. wins, Kelly will save Jej

Battle 2-- Kalvin wins

Battle 3-- Carter wins

Battle 4-- Andrew wins

Battle 5-- Shawn wins

Battle 6-- total toss up between Kendra and Jimmy

Battle 7-- Beth wins, John steals Rebecca

Battle 8-- Gyth wins

Just my predictions!!!

The Voice Season 16: The Cross Battles Begin for the First Time!

Cross Battles--

Team Blake: Kim Cherry singing Poison by Bel Biv Devoe vs. Team Kelly: Betsy Ade singing You Oughta Know by Alanis Morissette-- That was amazing. Both ladies rocked it, I loved the song choices. That's a tough decision, I was not a huge Betsy fan prior to this, but that was a great performance. Blake said Kim brings something so different to this show, we have never had anyone like her before. Kelly said Betsy was captivating. Adam said if he had to choose he would go with Betsy. John said he sees a steal in the future because both ladies were amazing.

My pick: Kim

Team Adam: Mari singing My My My by Troye Sivan vs. Team Blake: Selkii singing Torn by Natalie Imbruglia-- I have to give the edge to Mari. I found Selkii's performance a little bit boring. I like Selkii more than I liked that performance. John thought Mari came off more stylish and her confidence came off better. Kelly said I know what I'm getting with Mari, but Selkii there is something intriguing about you.

My pick: Mari

Team Legend: Lisa Ramey singing It Hurt So Bad by Susan Tedeschi  vs. Team Kelly: Karen Galera singing Unfaithful by Rihanna-- John said he is so proud Lisa is on his team. Your stage presence was incredible and your voice is strong. Kelly said Karen my favorite part about you is your tone. Adam said Lisa this was your best performance. Blake said you both did a great job, I have to second Adam. Lisa you have been a survivor. I did love Karen's tone, I think it was untouchable. That being said, something about that performance fell flat. She never really connected with the song.

My pick: Lisa technically, Karen emotionally

Team Kelly: Matthew Johnson singing Who's Loving You by The Jackson 5 vs. Team Adam: Domenic Haynes singing Damn Your Eyes by Etta James-- I love both of these artists. Matthew's personality sells his performances but this was not a good song choice for him. Domenic's performance was impassioned. Etta James is always classic, but he made this his own. He convinced me. Kelly talked about how strong a vocalist Matthew is. Adam said Domenic you are one of the most honest, raw, passionate singers we have ever seen. John said Domenic your tone, and your voice is so emotionally pure. Matthew, you have more range.

My pick: both need to move forward, but Domenic won this!

Team Kelly: Presley Tennant singing Love on the Brain by Rihanna vs. Team Legend: Kayslin Victoria singing Stay by Alessia Cara-- I loved both of these girls! Vocally, they are both powerhouses! Blake said you two being so young, I can already hear such a big difference. You  have already both grown so much.

My pick: Both could go forward, vocally Presley, total package Kayslin

Team Adam: Celia Babini singing A Thousand Years by Christina Perry vs. Team Blake: Oliv Blu singing Gravity by John Mayer-- Both ladies were great, but Olive is clearly more connected with the song. Celia seemed distracted tonight.

My pick: Oliv

Team Blake: Dexter Roberts singing Believe by Brooks and Dunn vs. Team Adam: Andrew Jannako singing Yours by Russell Dickerson-- Blake said that was tough. I am not gonna lie, you brought it. Blake said Dexter that song is sacred and you were pitch perfect. Kelly said Andrew, I don't even know if you know who you are. Kelly said you represent new country Andrew, and Dexter you represent old country. John said I preferred Andrew this time, you gave a better performance this time around.

Team Legend: Maelyn Jarmon singing Mad World Gary Jules by vs. Team Adam: Rod Stokes singing How Am I Supposed to Live Without You by Michael Bolton-- Two amazing performances-- Rod has a HUGE voice. He is a classic singer. Maelyn is so emotionally connected to whatever she is performing. John said Maelyn has great control of her instrument. Adam said that story tonight is Rod Stokes, you shocked your old coach! You stepped it up tonight.

My pick: Rod

American Idol: The Journey Continues, The Top 14 Take the Stage

Laine Hardy sang That's All Right by Elvis Presley-- Luke liked his delivery and his confidence. Laine has improved so much, especially vocals and stage presence. I love the attitude that he brings to every song.

Evelyn Cormier sang The Middle by Jimmy Eat World-- Her voice is unique but at some points it sounded like her voice was cracking.

Alyssa Raghu sang She Used to Be Mine by Sara Bareilles-- Lionel applauded the work she has put in and her growth. I have to admit that at first I didn't think I was going to like it. Once she started singing and hit the chorus she sounded strong.

Eddie Island sang Benny and the Jets by Elton John-- Luke said you make us smile, like what the heck is that outfit. Vocally make sure you stay on top of it, but it is so fun watching you. I agree with Luke, he does need to stay on top of his vocals. I understand that he was focused on the performance but the vocals were a little off.

Riley Thompson sang Suds in the Bucket by Sara Evans-- She's a little superstar. Luke loved her choice of song. Katy said she owned the stage.

Wade Cota sang Trouble by Ray LaMontange-- His voice sounded a little bit too gravely tonight. It was kind of weird if I am being honest. His full voice sounded good. The judges were much more excited than I was.

Dimitrius Graham sang Perfect by Ed Sheeran-- Surprisingly impressive! I love his voice, beautiful! The judges are all on their feet and so justified. WOW!

Madison Vandenburg sang Fallin' by Alicia Keys-- Her voice was so exposed during that performance and she sounded amazing. Katy said she carved out her own spot.

Jeremiah Lloyd Harmon sang We All Fall in Love Sometimes by Elton John-- Katy said I am so blessed to have this job and to meet people like you.

Uche sang Finesse by Bruno Mars-- Performance wise it was great but vocal wise, it left a lot to be desired.

Alejandro Aranda sang One Dance by Drake-- Kinda weird that Luke called him a Vegas act. Lionel said he has a lot of versatility. I like him more than I liked that performance but I think he should go through.

Ashley Hess sang Fix You by Coldplay-- Her performance seemed sincere but somehow that song is a bit overdone. Katy compared her to a Diana Krall or Carole King.

Laci Kaye Booth sang I Miss You by Blink 182-- Katy called her performance timeless. Luke liked that she called herself out for the spray tan. I loved how she did this song, it was beautiful, Blink 182 kind of does it as a ballad too, but the way she slowed it down and matched with her beautiful vocals was stunning.

Walker Burroughs sang Climb Every Mountain from The Sound of Music-- That was a great performance, and Luke is right, that is a tough song.

Who is going home? Evelyn, Wade, Ashley, and a toss up between Eddie and Jeremiah

The Voice Season 16: Location-- The Battles

Team Adam: Andrew Jannako vs. Patrick McAloon sang Free Fallin' by Tom Petty-- John was shocked that both of them could sing so high. He likes Patrick's voice because it has so much character. Adam said Patrick you're seasoned. Andrew, you were a revelation. You both stepped up and impressed me today. I think what Andrew did was so surprising that who knows where he could go. The potential is endless.
Adam chose Andrew

Team Blake: Selkii vs. Cecily Hennigan sang Head Above Water by Avril Lavigne-- Cecily is a talent but Selkii is ready right now! She is a star. Blake agreed, he had to go with the experience.
Blake chose Selkii

Team Blake: LiLi Joy vs. Carter Lloyd Horne-- Blake chose Carter
Team Kelly: Karen Galera vs. Alena D'Amico-- Kelly chose Karen

Team John: Kayslin Victoria vs. Olive Blue sang Location by Khalid-- Battle of the night! Both of these ladies are undeniably talented. Kayslin is beyond her years, her style was incredible. Olive reminds me so much of Erykah Badu, she is so grounded and earthy. Kelly said Olive the style was there, but Kayslin you have a gigantic voice.
John chose Kayslin and Blake stole Olive

Monday, April 8, 2019

The Voice Season 16: U Got it Bad for The Battles

Team Legend: Lisa Ramey vs. Betsy Ade singing The Joke--To me, Lisa is more different! Betsy was slightly more invested emotionally. I'd go with Lisa cause she's the comeback kid. Blake was torn, and Adam was undecided as well. John said you both showed you belong on a stage.
John chose Lisa and Kelly stole Betsy which was slightly surprising. The coaches like these two a lot more than I did.

Team Adam: Mari vs. Anthony Ortiz singing I Like Me Better by Lauv-- Adam said Mari was amazing and performed even better than in practice. Adam said Anthony's nerves got him at first but he recovered well. He did everything Adam asked of him. All the coaches seemed to want to go with Mari and ....
Adam chose Mari, he's bummed about Anthony I can tell!

Team Blake: Hannah Kay vs. Andrew Sevener singing Tequila --
Blake chose Andrew

Team Kelly: Abby Kasch vs. Jackson Marlow singing Bring on the Rain--
Kelly chose Abby

Team Legend: Jacob Maxwell vs. Talon Cardon singing Every Little Thing She Does is Magic by Sting-- I was not in love with that performance. Kelly thought Talon has more of an R&B type of vibe so he was at a disadvantage. It was more Jacob's style.
John chose Jacob

Team Kelly: David Owens vs. Rebecca Howell sang Unchained Melody-- Both are strong vocalists in this match up. The coaches are moved by the performance.
Kelly chose Rebecca and David gets chosen for the comeback stage.

Team Adam: Kalvin Jarvis vs. Jimmy Mowery singing U Got it Bad by Usher-- Wow! Best of the night by a mile. They sounded so good together. Jimmy's falsetto is so good, and Adam clearly worked with him on his full voice. Kalvin's lower register is so smooth. John said I have a hard time deciding between the two of you. Adam is proud of how they worked together through the performance. He really likes both of them.
Adam chose Kalvin and John stole Jimmy! Yes! Both of them deserve it.

Monday, April 1, 2019

The Voice Season 16: The Battles are Here!

Team Adam: Karly Moreno vs Celia Babini sang Friends by Marshmello and Anne Marie-- For me Karly won this. To be honest, this was a boring battle for me. Adam thinks both of them could go far in this. He said the shocker in this is your Karly, you're amazing. Celia, you were a four chair turn and you're sparkly and amazing.
Adam chose Celia, and Blake stole Karly

Team John: Julian King vs Denton Arnell sang Grenade by Bruno Mars-- Not digging this battle either. Julian is the winner here. Denton just did not rise to the occasion on this one. Blake said there was this run Julian did that separated you, so I would go with you. Kelly said you can both sing just as well.
John chose Julian

Team Kelly: Rizzi Myers vs Presley Tennant sang Whataya Want from Me by Adam Lambert-- So far this is the best battle of the night. I think they are well matched and both deserve to go through. John thought they were both outstanding and he liked how they worked together on the stage. He said he loved the confidence in Rizzi's voice. Adam said he would go with Rizzi cause it seems like she is ready right now. Blake said Presley took it to the next level.
Kelly chose Presley

Team Blake: Dexter Roberts vs Dalton Dover sang Hurricane by Luke Combs-- Wow! These guys were well matched! They were amazing. Dexter is more polished in terms of the whole package but Dalton is amazing from a vocal perspective. Both of them were feeling the song. Adam likes Dalton's rawness and he felt Dexter was more technically there. Blake said you guys did everything you could do. I heard both of you individually and I am happy about that.
Blake chose Dexter

Team Adam: Ciera Dumas vs L.B. Crew sang Done for Me by Charlie Puth-- I think both of them knocked it out of the park vocally. I loved the chemistry between them on the stage. L.B. has such a presence, he makes me smile. The runs by both of them were stellar. Blake said L.B. we expected that from you; Ciera I  love you hit those notes and your voice had that shred. Kelly said Ciera, I loved you in this battle. John said L.B., you remind me of some of the gospel singers I listened to growing up.
Adam chose L.B.

Ciera was chosen for the comeback stage!

Team Blake: Kim Cherry vs Kendra Checketts sang Here by Alessia Cara-- Battle of the night! Amazingness! They were absolutely vibing! I loved this. They both need to move forward. Kelly said I love y'all.  Kelly said Kim, I would go for you, I think this catered to you a little bit more. John said you nailed it, it was a flawless performance. Adam said you're both superb. Blake said imagine me, Brooks, and Dunn trying to coach this song. You have to have pocket and pitch to do this song.
Blake chose Kim--- double steal for Kendra by Adam and John, Kendra chose Adam

The Voice Season 16: Amazing Battles Are Never Too Much

Team Legend-- Khalid is the advisor, and Matthew Johnson and Shawn Sounds are singing Never Too Much by Luther Vandross-- First off, they look like they are performing at a BIG party. They are enthusiastic, such exuberance when they sing. They are truly enjoying themselves. The harmonies when they sing together are tight! I love both of them! Standing ovation from the coaches. Adam said it was like a tennis match, both of you are great singers. Blake said it's impossible to choose one over the other. I wish there was a button I could push to make you a duo. Kelly said you two are phenomenal, that's why you are both four chair turns, right. Matthew you are a light, and Shawn your runs are so crazy cool. Matthew I have to go with you because you make me smile with my heart. John said you both have a love of music in you.
John chose Shawn, someone needs to steal Matthew! Adam and Kelly with the steal. Adam said I like to lead by example and Kelly said I like drama! Matthew chose Kelly

Team Kelly-- Kelsea Ballerini is the advisor, The Bundys and Mikaela Astel are singing Songbird by Eva Cassidy-- They all sounded beautiful, it was so gentle and vulnerable. I loved how the harmonies were so good.  Adam said Mikaela you're so great and you're so young. The Bundys, you guys are super sweet and that was so graceful. Kelly said she needed to go with whoever was more ready for the knockouts so she picked.....
The Bundys ..... I think Mikaela was nervous.

Team Blake-- Brooks and Dunn are the advisors, Gyth Rigdon and Rod Stokes are singing Drunk Me by Mitchell Tenpenny-- I think this was Rod, but it was close. They are both great country vocalists. Rod has a unique voice, and Gyth has a killer range. Kelly said Rod slayed that song, and Gyth you were so comfortable on the stage. John said Rod's vocal tone is unique, and Gyth has great vocal runs; he'd go with Gyth. Adam said it was pretty even, but I think Rod you took this one.
Blake chose Gyth, wow and Adam really wanting a country singer stole Rod! Amazing!

Team Adam-- Charlie Puth is the advisor-- Domenic Haynes and Trey Rose are singing I Need a Dollar by Aloe Blacc-- Domenic actually sounds a little bit like Aloe. He has that same grit in his voice. Trey dirtied it up though which was awesome. Blake said hats off to both of you. Trey you hit those cool falsetto notes, and Domenic you have such a freedom when you perform. Kelly said it was very even. John said Domenic you are so different, I wanted you on my team. Adam said you guys did everything we talked about. Trey you had so much energy and excitement you went hard.
Adam chose Domenic

Team Legend-- Savannah Brister and Maelynn Jarmon are singing When We Were Young by Adele-- Very well matched, they are both really good! I would go with Savannah. I just really liked the tone of her voice. Blake said Maelynn you reached the bar again, and Savannah we figured out that you are incredible. Kelly said Savannah was the winner for her.
John chose Maelynn

Team Kelly-- Beth Griffith Manley and Jej Vinson are singing Jealous by Labrinth-- Wow, even in rehearsals they are incredible! Incredible! They were both vocally there for each other. John said Jej your tone was interesting and cool, same with you Beth. Adam said the unison you guys did was the best I have even heard. I am going to go with Jej. Blake said Beth you were incredible, and Jej you were matching her note for note.
Kelly chose Jej, and John came in with the steal for Beth

Top 3 Battles Tonight--- Matthew and Shawn, Domenic and Trey, and Beth and Jej! Amazing Performances!

The Voice Season 16: A Good Night for The Blinds

Celia Babini sang I Don't Want to Be You Anymore by Billie Eilish-- Deserving four chair turn! Celia has such a different sound. I have never heard this song but she sounded like Florence Welch  and a little like Fiona Apple as John mentioned. Blake said her performance was captivating, you're a champ. I think you're incredible. Kelly said she loves that song and loves that she sounds so different from the original artist. Adam said we're missing a Fiona Apple right now; you're the future right now. He said Celia is a unicorn and she said that she connected with Adam.
Celia chose Adam

Cecily Hennigan sang Foolish Games by Jewel-- She was incredible and Blake scored her cause no one else turned. She was so mature and that song was gorgeous on her. She sang it so beautifully. Adam said he was ashamed of himself for not turning. John said your voice is developed beyond your years (she is 16). Kelly said I am kinda glad you're on his team, cause it's so weird. Blake said I don't think you know what you're capable of.
Blake chose Cecily

Kalvin Jarvis sang  A Good Night by John Legend-- He has a great voice, I am surprised more coaches didn't turn. Kelly liked the lows in his voice. Adam called him ridiculous and said his song choice was bold. John said you picked my song, and I am picky. Blake said when John didn't push for his own song, I got distracted, I started thinking about breakfast food.
Kalvin chose Adam

Ava August sang House of the Rising Sun-- No turns

David Owens sang I Can't Make You Love Me by Bonnie Raitt-- Kelly was the only one who turned. He had an incredible voice too! Wow! I loved the rasp and the breaks in his voice, so gorgeous. It is insane that no one else turned for him!
Kelly chose David

Presley Tennant sang Stone Cold by Demi Lovato-- She has a mature voice! This is a great song for her, Demi Lovato is popular this year. Another one chair turn for Kelly. John said you picked a really good song and you sounded incredible in the higher range areas. Kelly said I am so excited that they are dumb. She has a mighty range.
Kelly chose Tennant

Rod Stokes sang To Love Somebody by The Bee Gees-- He is a country soul singer, he compares himself to a male Kelly Clarkson. He has great tone in his voice, and he feels the music. Loved this! All the coaches turned except for Kelly. John said I loved the gravel but clarity in your voice. Adam said I don't know what took these guys to turn. It was effortless. Blake is pushing the country part of himself and Rod.
Rod chose Blake who completed his team!

Calista Garcia sang Wishing Well-- No turns.

Andrew Jannako  sang Beautiful Crazy by Luke Combs--  It's funny, but whenever country artists go on a team other than Team Blake, they are not as impressive. I liked Andrew but I didn't find his voice great. Blake is trying to get Andrew to choose Kelly and not Adam. Blake said there is a reason that country singers don't go to Team Adam. Adam said you will be the only country singer on my team.
Andrew chose Adam and Adam's Team is now full!
Kayslin chose John

Maddi Fraser sang Get It While You Can by Janis Joplin-- No turns!

Jackson Marlow sang Old Troubadour by George Strait-- Jackson is Red Marlow's nephew! Kelly said Prince Charming you are a little young and I am married, but I will take you for my team.  I thought it was interesting how they did not play up the Red Marlow part of things more.
Kelly chose Jackson

Top 3 tonight--- Celia, David, and Presley
