The Voice Season 24: The Blinds So Far, and My Top Picks

Season 24:

Blind Auditions 1:

Jordan Rainger, 33, kicked it off singing Fancy by Reba McEntire-- I loved the flare she brought to the song. She has a unique sound and she is a little bit country rock. 4 chairs. Jordan of course picked Reba!

4 CHAIRS

Score: 8 out of 10

Joslyn Rose, 16, sang Arcade by Duncan Laurence-- Gwen, Reba, and Niall turned. She is young and she does have a good voice. She has that folksy sound. However she was a little shaky in some places. Gwen always seems to go for the young contestants. John compared her to Billie Eilish. Joslyn picked Gwen.

Score: 5 out of 10

DeeJay Young, 33, sang This Woman's Work by Maxwell-- This is a killer song and he did it justice. John, Gwen, and Reba turned. His phrasing is gorgeous and his falsetto is beautiful. I love how he transitions from falsetto to his full voice. He calls Reba a legend but says "Get Lifted" changed his life. He predictably chose John.

Score: 9 out of 10

Sophia Hoffman, 18, sang Tell Me You Love Me by Demi Lovato-- Love this song, didn't love all the choices she made vocally. She came back from last season. Reba and Niall turned. Reba complimented her power and strength. Sophia chose Niall.

Score: 6 out of 10

Jackson Snelling, 21, If Heaven Wasn't So Far Away by Justin Moore-- Gwen and Reba turned. Jackson was a contestant on American Idol in 2019. He has a good voice, great country tone, pure. Jackson says he grew up listening to "Miss Reba". Jackson chose Reba.

Score: 7 out of 10

Alexa Wildish, 34, sang Songbird by Fleetwood Mac-- Well deserved four chair turn. Her tone is stunning. Niall said the performance made him emotional, and that he started picking up a guitar and becoming a songwriter because of people like Stevie Nicks. Everyone commented on the fact that she is a storyteller when she sings. She chose Niall.

Score: 9 out of 10

Olivia Minogue, 19, sang Lay Me Down by Sam Smith-- I love her song choice. She has a unique tone, it's a little bit odd though. Her lower register just doesn't sit well. John, Niall, and Reba turned, and Olivia being a huge One Direction fan chose Niall.

Score: 5 out of 10

Kristen Brown, 24, sang Blown Away by Carrie Underwood-- Okay, she is no Carrie, but she did hit some of the big notes. I think she is someone who could improve with some coaching. Gwen and Reba turned for her which I expected. Gwen calls Kristen a diamond in the rough. Reba promises to steal her because Kristen chose Gwen.

Score: 8 out of 10

Mara Justine, 21, sang Goodbye Yellow Brick Road by Elton John-- Mara was on AGT and American Idol and did pretty well on both shows. Now she has come to The Voice. John, Gwen, Reba, and Niall all turned. She is a pro, and is seasoned as a performer. I don't necessarily love the song for her or this rendition of it. I think she may have changed the melody a little too much. Mara ended up choosing John.

Score: 7 out of 10

Blind Auditions 2:

Ruby Leigh, 16, sang I Want to be a Cowboy's Sweetheart by Patsy Montana-- Wow! She is amazing. I cannot believe she is 16. I don't agree with John often but he said her voice was clear and precise. 4 CHAIRS

Score: 9.5 out of 10

Juliette Ojeda, 20, sang Hopelessly Devoted to You from Grease-- This was a little too old fashioned for me. I'd like to hear her sing something straight pop. Gwen, Niall, and Reba turned for her. Juliette chose Gwen.

Score: 4 out of 10

Julia Roome, 13, sang Dream a Little Dream of Me-- Wow, her voice is so mature for her age. She has a classic sound, but it doesn't sound too old fashioned if that even makes sense. Her tone is unique. Niall and Gwen turned. She looked so excited when Niall turned. She could go far if coached and developed in the right way. I am actually surprised that she did not receive more turns. Julia chose Niall.

Score: 8.5 out of 10

Jenna Marquis, 19, sang Teenage Dirtbag by Wheatus-- Gwen, Niall, and John turned. I actually admired her choice of song and the way she pursued it and really made it her own. I loved the attack of the second half and her rasp. Jenna said she really looks up to Gwen and listens to her every day. She said she first heard the song she sang at a One Direction concert. Jenna chose Gwen.

Score: 9 out of 10

Ephraim Owens, 36, sang Beneath Your Beautiful by Labrinth-- I don't even like that song and he was amazing. His tone is so special. He comes across as passionate, and his full voice is like incredible. Gwen liked his combo of soul and rock. Niall complimented his angst. Reba called him a firecracker, dynamic, and explosive. However-- Ephraim said John is one of his inspirations, so it is no surprise that he chose John.

Reid Zingdale, 27, sang July by Noah Cyrus-- Gwen, Niall, and John turned almost immediately. I think he has a cool sound, but I agree with Reba, he needs to enunciate his words a little bit better. The song is cool though and he has a storyteller sound and vibe. Niall said my fans are going to love you. Reid chose Niall.

Score: 8.5 out of 10

Claudia B, 24, sang Human Nature by Michael Jackson-- John, Niall, and Reba turned at the beginning. I love the song choice, and how she kind of gave it a jazz/ pop sound. She does have some soul in her voice too. Claudia went to Berklee and studied jazz. John asked what instrument she played, she said keys. Niall said he could tell she was a musician cause of how she interpreted the song. Claudia mentioned that she waited on Reba in Nashville and that she was very sweet to her, and Reba commented that she liked her vulnerability. Claudia chose John.

Score: 8.25 out of 10

He is soulful, expressive, and just all his own. John comments that he made us forget about the original. Reba stresses that she loves all genres of music. Mac surprises the whole panel by choosing Reba. He said he and his grandmother used to watch her show together.

4 CHAIRS

Score: 7 out of 10

Alison Albrecht sang Ironic by Alanis Morissette-- Another one chair turn by Reba. I don't find Alison particularly strong. I think she will quickly be pushed out in the next round.

Score: 4 out of 10

Blind Auditions 4:

Laura Williams, 20, sang Fingers Crossed by Lauren Spencer Smith-- Hmm, the coaches obviously loved her. I found her a little bit shouty at times. I do give her props for getting through the song, but there was something about it that I didn't love the way the coaches did.  Niall loves her vibe and mentions how difficult the song is to sing. Reba says Laura is a prodigy. Laura chose Niall, obviously because she spoke about how much she loved One Direction.

4 CHAIRS

There is totally a roundness in his voice, that I am obsessed with, and I cannot wait to hear what happens going forward. Gwen and Reba turned, Gwen blocked Reba, and Jason is on Team Gwen.

Score: 10 out of 10

Kaylee Shimizu, 17, sang Golden Slumbers by The Beatles-- I find her song choice a little bit weird. She has an Ariana Grande vibe, clearly she can hit high notes. Kaylee chose John.

4 CHAIRS

Score: 9.25 out of 10

Score: 6 out of 10

Jacquie Roar, 37, sang Here for the Party by Gretchen Wilson-- Her performance got better as it went along. She was definitely nervous at first. I love all the grit and growl in her voice, and this song suited her style of rock/ country. All four coaches took a while, but turned. Reba loved her song choice and thought her range was incredible. Niall said that was insane, he wanted to see dynamic and she showed it. Gwen said this is so much pressure, I want you to like me.
