01 Scotty McCreery sang Country Comfort-- Steven said you didn't it again for me. Jennifer said you have amazing instincts about performing, you're right on, never doubt yourself. Randy said it's like you are already a seasoned performer, and I am at your show. Scotty is brave because he takes songs that have a really different sound and he makes them his own.

02 Naima Adedapo sang I'm Still Standing-- Jennifer said I don't know if that song should have been flipped, but I love how you performed. Randy said it came off kind of corny and that's not who you are. Steven said good for you for picking a song that actually fits you. I actually think she took a risk and it paid off. I agree with Steven; I liked what she brought to the song.

03 Paul McDonald sang Rocket Man-- Randy said I think you're holding back; I want you to push more. Jennifer echoed the sentiment. Steven said I loved your voice and the day you start hitting every note I am not going to like you anymore. I can name five singers out there right now that don't hit every note, and that's my cup of tea. I like you; I like your character. I don't think this was Paul's best performance by a long shot, but he does deserve to be here.

04 Pia Toscano sang Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me-- Steven said ballads are who you are. Jennifer said I feel you trying to push through that barrier on the performance side of things. Randy made it clear that Pia can sing, he just wants her to show more of what she has to offer by singing different types of songs. To me, Pia is one of the most consistent people in this competition and she definitely makes the right song choices to showcase her vocal skills.

05 Stefano Langone sang Tiny Dancer-- Jennifer said I felt you moved the crowd today; you made a connection. Randy said I liked that you made a connection with the audience, you moved around the stage, and you hit the money notes every time. Steven said, you nailed it, you connected with the audience; it was really good. Stefano has proven that he can take feedback and criticism and turn it around into a positive performance. This is something that real stars do and he doesn't deserve to be in that bottom three this week.

06 Lauren Alaina sang Candle in the Wind-- Randy called it one of the best Lauren Alaina performances and said she is a pro who can do anything if she believes in herself. He said it was very hot. Steven said we knew what you were about the first night we met you and that was perfect. Jennifer said that was amazing, you sounded gorgeous, that was "it" baby; best of the night. Lauren's performance was really unforgettable tonight, she proved that she has star quality.

07 James Durbin sang Saturday Night's All Right-- Steven said you brought the heat, you go where other people don't go, you have a great rock voice. Jennifer and Randy both said that it was a great performance. He got everyone involved to the point that they forgot it was a competition.

08 Thia Megia sang Daniel-- Randy said there were some pitch issues here and there and it may have been a little bit too safe. Jennifer and Steven both agreed that she picked the right song for her voice. I think Thia has been spared one too many times, and I don't think any of her performances have been strong enough to warrant her going any further. She is a really sweet girl though.

09 Casey Abrams sang Your Song-- Randy said saving you was one of the greatest saves we've had on this show. Your performance was tender, well done. Steven said, you sing different every time and that's what a great artist does. Jennifer said I didn't lose an ounce of sleep saving you; your performance tonight was sweet. I still don't think this was Casey's best but it is leaps in the right direction. The Casey I loved before is definitely back.

10 Jacob Lusk sang Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word-- Steven loved the whole performance. Jennifer loved the arrangement of the song, and the final note; she called it very Jacob. Randy said pick one spot in the song where you go all the way because the first half of the performance was great. I have a lot of friends who think Casey is a lock to win this thing, but I told them to be weary of certain people, and one of them is Jacob and this performance has proven that.

11 Haley Reinhart sang Benny and the Jets-- Jennifer said it all came together for you tonight, amazing. Randy called it the best performance of the night. Steven said, you sing sexy. I agree this was by far Haley's performance but I don't know if it redeems her or saves her from a string of not so good performances.

American Idol Season 10: The Top 11 Take Motown
Tonight began with an homage to Motown Records which produced over 400 hit singles and 50 number one hits! Berry Gordy sat in the audience looking on.
01. Casey Abrams sang "I Heard it Through the Grapevine" by Marvin Gaye (1967)-- Steven said perfect pitch and perfect mix of out of control. Jennifer said, I thought about it and there is no one out there like you. Randy said you're a true original and you take chances. I liked it, but I have to be honest; I didn't love this performance. I kept trying to figure out why and I discovered it's because to me the vocals felt forced in places. It didn't feel effortless to me.

02. Thia Megia sang "Heat Wave" by Martha Reeves and the Vandellas (1963)-- Jennifer said continue to dig deeper because we know you have it in you, and remember to connect with your lyrics. Randy said you can really sing but keep pushing. Steven said, you took a step out, and I'm good with it. Thia did improve from last week; however, her vocals continue to be on the weak side. She has a ways to go, and if it doesn't change or improve, she'll only be around for a couple more weeks.

I didn't want this performance to be over, like Jennifer, my ears were standing at attention waiting for more. This was truly a polished performance; bravo!

Jennifer thought Lauren looked beautiful and loved the attitude that she brought to the song. Randy said Lauren is back and she has her swagger on tonight. I felt she did a good job singing the song and her vocals were solid, but there was a part of me that kept expecting her to do more with the song.

She said when you feel it in your heart, your phrasing is going to change. You have to be able to connect with the song emotionally, look at every lyric, if you don't make a connection, throw it out, and move on to the next song. Steven agreed with Jennifer. Randy said you sounded really good but there was no real connection. I have to say, I think the advice Jennifer gave to Stefano was spot on. He is one of the best singers in the competition, imagine how much better he will be once he makes that connection. Wow!

Hayley Reinhart sang "You Really Got a Hold on Me" by Smokey Robinson and the Miracles (1962)-- Randy said it started rough but by the middle of the song the bluesy Hayley we knew and loved in Hollywood came back. Steven said, it was beautiful and touched my heart. Jennifer said you have an effortless control in your voice and the most soulful female voice in the competition. This was leaps and bounds better than any performance I have seen from her thus far. The question is, is it strong enough to keep her in the competition? That's a toss up.

You're going to need to have that because someday you're going to do a two hour concert. Randy said your voice is phenomenal and he wants to hear something other than a ballad. Steven said you are the closest star in this American Idol thing, and I know you'll do whatever it takes to prove how great you are. That was unbelievable to me, that was a performance that brought a tear to my eyes. That is what you call effortless vocals.

09. Paul McDonald sang "Tracks of My Tears" by Smokey Robinson and The Miracles (1965)-- Randy said you're so unique and I love that tender part of your voice at the end. Steven said I loved what you did tonight, especially with the guitar onstage. Jennifer said you're the most seasoned performer, you come out, do your thing, all you need is a producer. The distinctness of Paul's voice is what draws me in every week, it completely captures me. I love the high performance quality and he is more comfortable onstage than anyone else.

I loved that everything was so well put together.

The Top 12 American Idol Season 10: Songs From The Year You Were Born
The show kicked off poignantly with the judges talking about the tragedy in Japan with purchases of tonight's singles going to aid efforts. The theme tonight is "Songs from the Year You Were Born".
01. Naima Adedapo(1984) sang "What's Love Got to do With It" by Tina Turner-- I don't think I loved this because it seems like Naima had trouble this week with the same thing she had trouble with last week. The pitch was just all over the place. Steven said she has a sorcerer's grasp for melody. Jennifer said she was under the pitch and has to work on that. Randy agreed and said you looked hot but the vocals were all over the place.

Paul McDonald (1984) sang "I Guess That's Why They Call it the Blues" by Elton John-- I could tell that Paul struggled being sick and all but despite all that he has definite potential and sounded good. Jennifer said it sounded so good, you have so much soul, and so much star quality. Randy said the notes were a little pitchy but you make everything you sing your own. Steven said you define a cool dude, I love your swagger, and you have such a distinctive voice.

03. Thia Megia (1995) sang "Colors of the Wind" by Vanessa Williams-- Unfortunately, this was painful for me to listen to. Thia's voice was too small and this just ended up being boring for me. Randy said the vocals were okay, but he found it boring, there was nothing special about it, and it was too safe. Steven asked her to think if this song is really who she is. Jennifer said this was too safe, you need to break out from that, push out of the box.

04. James Durbin (1989) sang "I'll Be There for You" by Bon Jovi-- This wasn't James's best performance but he makes me smile every time he takes the stage. He continues to be passionate and grow in his performance quality. Steven said it was good James but don't get too poppy on me. Jennifer said you make me wanna sing along and you bring so much joy when you're up on the stage. Randy said the high note was very tastefully done, it was a little pitchy, but I liked that you found a way to make it your own.

05. Haley Reinhart (1990) sang "I'm Your Baby Tonight" by Whitney Houston-- This is a classic R&B song and Haley strayed too far from that. The melody of the song was lost, and the vocals were far from being on point. Jennifer commented on how beautiful Haley looked. Randy said I'm not sure that you are sure of who you are as an artist. He said that the vocals were okay but it wasn't a great performance. Steven told her to dig into the blues part of her.

Randy said this was the best performance of the night, hot vocals! Steven commented on the beautiful phrasing that Stefano put together in his performance. Jennifer loved it and said if he works on his connection with the audience this competition is his.

Steven said, Pia, you took that song over the top. Jennifer said I liked that you gave an upbeat performance this time. Randy said hey everyone Pia is in this competition to win it.

This kid is crazy good and he knows who he is with no doubts and his vocals are always on. Jennifer likes how Scotty continues to grow and she urged him to keep growing and keep learning. Randy said you did Travis proud and I believe in you. Steven said, you are gonna go places.

Karen Rodriguez (1989) sang "Love Will Lead You Back" by Taylor Dane-- Karen showed me tonight why she is in this competition, not only did I enjoy her performance but I thought her vocals were exceptional. Randy said welcome back Karen. Steven said this was tan dolce. Jennifer liked how she attacked it and told her to perform to her strengths.

10. Casey Abrams (1991) sang "Smells Like Teen Spirit" by Nirvana-- This to me was a big risk that paid off big time. I loved this, and it shows me how versatile a performer Casey is. Steven said you're crazy and talented and that's the perfect combination. Jennifer said big shoes to fill, and it was a big risk, it lacked a little bit of intensity at times, but I still love you. Randy said the thing he likes about Casey is he thinks big risk first and commerce second, and he is fearless.

11. Lauren Alaina (1994) sang "I'm The Only One" by Melissa Etheridge-- Despite the fact that Lauren is sick she still managed to sound good. This young lady has lots of poise. Jennifer said you kept with the melody of this song, yet you made it your own. Randy said despite being sick he liked what she did this week. Steven said Lauren, you're a shining star; you did it again.

The Top 13 American Idol Season 10: Songs from their Idols
1. Lauren Alaina sang "Any Man of Mine" by Shania Twain-- Lauren Alaina has a wonderful performance quality about her and she can sing just about anything. What is missing right now is the fire and desire within her to win this competition. Steven said I love that song but it should have been a little bit more kick ass. Randy said we want you to sing something that will make you shine beyond belief because we know you have that talent. Jennifer said we love you but we want to see that you want it.

2. Casey Abrams sang "With a Little Help from My Friends" by Joe Cocker-- I liked this performance very much, but I did not by any means feel it was one of his best performances. I don't think there has ever been anyone like him on the show before. Steven said love the character and rasp in your voice, a lil pitchy, watch out. Jennifer felt he was unique and moved the crowd. Randy said I love the character of you and I love Ryan Adams.

5. Pia Toscano sang "All By Myself" by Celine Dion-- I think Pia is a rare find and I have felt that since the beginning. Her voice can tackle all those Mariah, Whitney, and Celine songs without question. Jennifer felt she topped last week, really beautiful. Randy said you hit all the notes dead on and you have such a natural gift. Hot, dope, cool performance; I agree. Happy International Women's Day, you slammed that Pia, it was beautiful, said Steven.

6. James Durbin sang "Maybe I'm Amazed" by Paul McCartney-- This is a guy who I really like because he has no ego and he just goes out there and sings his butt off every week. I admire James and I am inspired by him. Listen man, you are one of my favorites and let me tell you why; you can sing anything. James Durbin is dangerous America, this man can sing! Steven said you did such a good job. Jennifer said you have what the best rock singers have, a melodic quality to your voice.

7. Haley Reinhart sang "Blue" by Leann Rimes-- In appreciate the raspy quality of Haley's voice and it's something I really like. That being said, I agree with Randy, it was a little bit boring. Haley does not want to become average at this stage of the competition. Steven said Haley that was beautiful and you did such a good job. Jennifer loves that her voice is so special.

8. Jacob Lusk sang "I Believe I Can Fly" by R. Kelly-- Again, I am going to have to agree with Randy. Jacob has this signature start to every song where he opens his mouth and you can tell that it's him singing. The middle of the song he lost his way a bit, and it was a little pitchy, but in the end he found his way again. I loved the way this performance ended. Jennifer said, you're amazing Jacob. Steven said, I cannot even judge you cause you're that good.

9. Thia Megia sang "Smile" by Michael Jackson-- Randy loved the beginning and felt Thia had a sound reminscent to Michael Jackson and Adele; he didn't like the jazzy part in the middle and end. Steven echoed Randy. Jennifer said I too didn't get the arrangement but you still sounded like an angel. I agree, the arrangement was a bit of a mess and that could end up hurting Thia. I loved the soft quality in her voice that we heard in the beginning but that middle part, it just wasn't her.

10. Stefano Langone sang "Lately" by Stevie Wonder-- Steven said you pulled that off, and it was so well done. Jennifer said she was dancing, and said it was like the dance remix of Lately. She also commented that he sounded great. Randy said, Stevie is one of the greatest male singers even and he felt Stevie would be proud of that performance; by the middle, you were soaring. I didn't love the arrangement of this song, but I think Stefano sounded amazing. He always sings like he is fighting for his life; it's nice to see someone with that much desire.

Karen Rodriguez sang "I Could Fall in Love" by Selena-- Jennifer hit it dead on and I agree with her; she said I felt you were uncomfortable with a lot of the notes and I have never known you to have trouble with hitting notes. This was one of the best performances of the night and I am convinced that this young man is going to be a star in country music. Steven said, you are ridin high. Jennifer said what I loved is how you really opened up and brought the audience into this with you.

All the areas where she was singing, I was very impressed with her voice. I thought her voice was beautiful. Steven said you were a little pitchy but you brought flavor and I adore you for that. Jennifer liked her fire and said you're doing it like a real artist. Work on your control though she said. Randy said I do care about the pitchiness but I loved what you brought to the performance.

American Idol Season 10: Top 24 Part 2
The Ladies:
1. TaTynisa Wilson sang Only Girl in the World by Rihanna-- Steven liked it a lot. Jennifer told her that she brought it home. Randy thought it was okay, nothing special or different about it; I agree with Randy.

2. Naima Adedapo sang Summertime by Porgy and Bess-- Randy liked how Naima ended the song. Steven said she sounds like a new Ella Fitzgerald. I like the sound of Naima; I don't know if she is strong enough for this competition.

3. Kendra Chantelle sang Impossible by Christina Aguilera-- Randy said he really liked it and Steven called her the whole package. Jennifer thinks that Kendra can give more than that, and I agree but I think she is stronger than most of the other ladies from this season.

4. Rachel Zevita sang Criminal by Fiona Apple-- Steven found it to be too Broadway. Randy called it not good at all and said Fiona's song was unrecognizable. Jennifer said when you're on stage you have to think about what people are going to think of you.

5. Karen Rodriguez sang Hero by Mariah Carey-- Randy said she found a way to make it her own especially by bringing the Spanish into it. He said it sounded beautiful with the Spanish. Steven said I just loved it and I think you're fantastic.

7. Ashthon Jones sang Love Over Me by Monica-- Jennifer said you have the makings of a diva. Steven said you go places with your voice that other people don't go. Randy complimented on her confidence and stage presence. Ashthon should have sang something more recognizable so that people would have been able to relate more because I think she is extremely talented.

8. Julie Zorilla sang Breakaway by Kelly Clarkson-- Jennifer liked it but didn't love it. She said you needed to connect with the words more. Randy said it wasn't new, different, or better than Kelly. Steven said it was the wrong song for you.

American Idol Season 10: Top 24
American Idol Season 10 started off by introducing the public to the Top 24 for the first time.
On Tuesday the Top 12 Guys performed and on Wednesday the Top 12 Ladies performed; my overall opinion is that the guys outperformed the ladies by a mile. I will say that the ladies overall are more impressive than past seasons. The guys are more well rounded, they are not just singers but musicians.

Steven said this was not my favorite performance of you.

Part 2 The Top Songs of 2010
OMG!-- Usher featuring will.i.am: It didn't garner the critical reception but it did garner an enormous amount of airplay. It was arguably one of the songs of the summer along with Katy Perry's California Gurls. Many critics bashed the use of auto tune in the song but it was hard to deny that cool club thumping vibe; oh my gosh!

The song is a full out love story, a switch for the alternative band that usually sings about despressing issues, "doom and gloom".

Power-- Kanye West: The song was used for the movie trailers for "The Social Network", a movie about one of the most powerful men in the world, Mark Zuckerberg. The argument could be made that "Power" is sung and written by one of the most powerful men in rap music, Kanye West. We love to hate him sometimes, but then there's this part of us that wants to like him cause his music is just so damn good.
Time magazine even went as far as to name it the number three song of 2010! Knowing Kanye, he probably felt it should have been number one.

Pink told a story of two female friends of hers who marries one another in her backyard. At the end of the wedding, the mom of one of the bride's cried saying, why can't this be legal? Pink said she was heartbroken. If anyone can get a point across in a loud way, it's Pink, and she makes a pretty good Rosie the Riveter to boot.

It looks like 2011 will be just as successful and Moment for Life may prove to be true for Nicki.

Runaway-- Kanye West: This is the best way to describe Runaway- "In 2010, no other song was so crazily epic or jaw-droppingly gorgeous — not on the radio, not anywhere," so said Rolling Stone magazine. I remember the first time I heard Runaway and watched the video, I was absolutely mesmerized by not just ballerinas dancing but by the music and then when the lyrics started, wow. The only way to describe it is a masterpiece. My Dark Twisted Fantasy may be Kanye's best album to date.

September-- Daughtry: It's been almost five years since Chris Daughtry left the American Idol stage and in those years he has turned into a bona fied superstar. Daughtry headlines shows now and last summer the single September climbed the charts. The song was co written by Daughtry and band mate Josh Steeley and chronicles summer fading into fall and having to leave that small town to make something of yourself. Five years ago, that's exactly what Chris Daughtry was doing.

Last week on Glee, one of the boys sang a Justin Bieber song in order to make this girl love him a little bit more, and guess what? It worked. "For an artist who has built her career on songs about love, lust and heartache, Keys has never sounded quite as vulnerable and exposed as she does here," a sentiment expressed perfectly by Mariel Concepcion from Billboard magazine. The song was co-written by Keys, Drake, longtime friend Kerry Brothers Jr., and Noah "40" Shebib. Drake's musical influence is definitely noticeable on the track; Keys promised there would be more of her and Drake in the future. Let's hope.
