The Voice Season 23: The Lives Finally Begin

Team Niall: Ryley Tate Wilson sang Vienna by Billy Joel-- I am a huge Ryley Tate fan but this song choice was old and dated on him. I wanted to hear something newer, contemporary. I hope this isn't his only song.

Team Chance: Ray Uriel sang Can You Stand the Rain by New Edition-- I am obsessed with his song choice, after all these years, this song still feels relevant. I wanted his outfit to be different for this song. I thought he gave a good performance, but he left me wanting more. I didn't feel satisfied. Blake said you're so cool on stage, killer job.

Team Kelly: Holly Brand sang Rumor Has It by Reba McEntire-- Great song choice for Holly. She sounded beautiful and she showed her range through that song. Chance said she killed the whole performance. Kelly said she has no doubt Reba would be so proud.

Team Blake: Noivas sang Skyfall by Adele-- Wow, that performance was a testimony. It was so powerful. The coaches are on their feet. Noivas was really overcome with emotion. Blake said every time he does something he does it different, he does it in the moment.

Team Niall: Gina Miles sang All I Want by Kodaline-- I wanted to love this performance but this song choice fell short for me as well. Niall saw her confidence.

Team Chance: Sorelle sang Fallin' by Alicia Keys-- That was such a cool performance and you could tell that they put so much into that. Kelly said you guys are incredible. Chance said I love that you keep your confidence, the pitch and the choreography were there.

Team Kelly: D Smooth sang Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran-- I didn't think I was going to like this for him, but I loved it. He made it more soulful, he made it his own. Blake said I don't know how you don't vote that guy into the finale. You were comfortable on stage, cool, and unique. Kelly said I am such a fan and so proud of you, it's straight from the heart.

Team Blake: Grace West sang Til I Can Make it on My Own by Tammy Wynette-- Niall said one of my favorite voices on this show. I've always been a fan of you. You need to be in the final. Blake said I will be stunned if you don't make it into the finale. You're the real deal.

The 5 Finalists from Real Time Voting:

Grace West, D Smooth, Gina Miles, Sorelle, Noivas

The Voice Season 23: Team's Kelly and Niall Fight for a Spot in the Lives

Team Kelly: D Smooth sang Location by Khalid-- That was like old school R&B at its finest. Chance liked how he was doing some improve towards the end. Blake said I am gonna be doing the same thing with my mic that you did there, no one has lived up to their name like you. Niall said I bet you never do that the same. Kelly said he really made the song his own.

Team Niall: Ross Clayton sang With or Without You by U2-- Ross is one of those throwback artists, that was such a cool performance. I am surprised when Chance says he doesn't know that song. Kelly complimented his range. Blake said it went from good to incredible. Niall said he was proud of him and that he nailed it as usual.

Team Kelly: Cait Martin sang Alone by Heart-- Wow, she actually pulled that off. I needed that big ending. Niall said song choice phenomenal, pure and clean. Chance thought it was a dope performance. Blake said you were a monster, it sounded like the pitch got off but then you made it back. Kelly said I need to think who you are going up against in the lives.

Team Niall: Gina Miles sang Wicked Games by Chris Isaak-- What a stunning song choice for her. She sounds absolutely amazing. Chance said I don't know you had so much control of your lower register. Kelly said that was crazy, the control. You're rad. Blake said if you don't put her through, not only are you fired from the show, you're not my son anymore. That was the best thing I have heard on this show in a while. Niall said you absolutely nailed that performance, I still have goosebumps.

Team Kelly: Neil Salsich sang Have a Little Faith by John Hiatt-- That was a gorgeous performance. I just loved how passionate he was, it's like he was talking to someone and telling a story, took it almost gospel style. Blake said all you do is come out here and be great. Niall said the runs were great and the passion you throw into the performance, magic. Chance said you know I rock with you, dynamic performance, great song choice. Kelly said your purpose and passion is on the stage, it's like home to you.

Team Niall: Tasha Jessen sang Here by Alessia Cara-- I feel like she is under pitch. I think she got too much in her head during the performance. She is also behind the beat. Chance said it started rocky but then she settled in. Kelly said she felt like the song got away from her a bit, but she is a fan of hers. Niall said it got a little bit away, but you got it back and I am really proud of you.

Team Kelly: Ali sang Never Alone by Tori Kelly and Kirk Franklin-- That was definitely emotional performance. Niall said you have a soul with storytelling, and I have been a fan since day one. Chance said you impress me every time. Blake said you have such a vision, and it got away from you a little bit, but you've become such a fan favorite. Kelly said you move me.

Team Niall: Michael B. sang The Joke by Brandi Carlile-- What a solid performance. I could tell that Michael felt every note of that song. Kelly said that was crazy, that was so good.  All that stuff at the end, I didn't need it but you gave it to me anyway. Blake said Michael, that was incredible. I haven't seen anyone throw more of themselves into a performance than you have. Chance said I am always a fan of Michael B. Niall said you connect to this lyric and it's unlike anyone in this competition.

Team Kelly: Holly Brand sang Bring on the Rain by Jo Dee Messina-- She has a great voice, I don't think that song best showcased her voice, but looking at her body of work, she is so talented. Blake said it's a tough part of the competition, you did a killer job. Niall said it's nice to see that side of you. Chance said you sang that first line and I sat up. Kelly said you bring us to that place.

Team Niall: Ryley Tate Wilson sang When the Party's Over by Billie Eilish-- I felt he connected so well with the lyrics of the song, he poured everything into that performance. It was truly emotional. Chance said you surprise me every week, greatest show of control out of all the performances. Kelly said I am very very very scared of you, you are so good. Blake said, unbelievable, all the different parts of your voice, you know you gotta put Ryley through. Niall said, 15 years old, Ryley is mature beyond his years, I am so proud of you.

Coach's Picks--

The Voice Season 23: I Was Unaware the Battles would be this Good

Team Kelly: D. Smooth and Ali sang Unaware by Allen Stone-- Blake said Ali had confidence and joy, and he is a fan of D. Smooth. Niall said it was not a battle but a duet, and he'd tilt a little bit towards Ali. I'm like Blake, I am really a fan of D. Smooth, and Kelly said she hasn't heard a guy sing like him since the 90s. True that! He reminds me of J. Holiday or Ginuwine. Kelly also mentioned that what Ali has is special, and it is, but with that being said, I'd need to choose D. Smooth. Kelly chose Ali. Chance tried to steal D. Smooth and then Kelly used her playoff pass on him.

Team Blake: Grace West and Carlos Rising sang I Told You So by Randy Travis-- Niall said he would lean towards Grace. Chance loved Carlos tone and thinks he has a unique voice, he thinks they are so well matched that he can't pick one over the other. Kelly said Carlos you can carry through any genre, and Grace your soul and your tone is not teachable. Blake said I like how you can sing anything Carlos, and Grace you are born to sing country whether you want to or not. I loved both of them in all honesty, I can see both of them recording albums. Blake chose Grace.

Team Niall: Tiana Goss and Kate Cosentino sang Girls Just Wanna Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper-- Performance value was awesome, I didn't necessarily feel like it showcased their voices the best but it was a fun performance. Chance thought both of them could be stars, he leaned towards Kate though slowly based on performance. Kelly thinks it was an even playing field. Blake said he would go with Tiana, he felt like she was always on pitch and in the pocket. Niall said the winner of the battle is Kate. Chance stole Tiana.

Team Kelly: Holly Brand and Katie Beth Forakis sang Lady Like by Ingrid Andress-- Blake loved Holly's classic country voice, but he loved what Katie Beth did with the harmonies and found it really cool. Kelly told Katie Beth her runs are so cool and so different. She said she believes Holly could sing so many different genres as well. I liked Katie Beth, but Holly is just so talented and has this undeniable voice. Kelly chose Holly, I would have as well.

Team Chance: Chloe Abbott and Nariyella sang I Want You Around-- The style was very cool and I loved the vibe that they brought but I didn't love the song. Kelly loved the attitude of how Chloe sings, very Erykah Badu. She loved the smooth grit of Nariyella's voice. Blake said he felt like Nariyella had that song by the throat the entire time and he'd pick her. Chance said he had to lean into his gut and base it just on this battle, and he chose Nariyella.

Team Niall: Ryley Tate Wilson and Michael B sang Heartbreak Anniversary by Giveon-- Woah! That was incredible. They were both so good and so soulful but yet so unique. Chance said that was just insane, one of the best in the battles so far. Chance said Ryley you're only 15, and Michael you just killed that. Kelly said, what you're 15, you can't even drive a car. Michael, why weren't you a four chair turn? Blake said I don't think I was there that day. Blake said we expected that from you Ryley, but for my money, Michael you won that battle. Niall said their performance was off the charts, and if they ask him, he isn't coming back. I'd save them both if I was Niall. Niall chose Michael. Niall gave Ryley his playoff pass.

The Voice Season 23: Ohhh La La

Ryley Tate Wilson sang Dancing On My Own by Robyn-- At 15, wow, the poise, and the experience that he sings with is truly beyond his years. He is a well deserved four chair turn. Niall said Ryley my head nearly exploded, that was the best audition we've heard so far. Kelly said your tone is incredible. Your runs weren't planned, they were felt. Chance said I loved how you improvised with the runs and how much control there was. Blake said you pick me as your coach, and I will quit coaching after this season because I got you on my team. Ryley picked Niall.

Jamar Langley sang Try Me-- Jamar has that old school R&B throwback type of voice and vibe. I knew Blake would be drawn to that type of artist, but I am excited to see what Chance is going to do with him. Jamar chose Chance.

Allie Keck sang Paris (Oohh La La) by Grace Potter & The Nocturnals-- Blake turned right away and then Kelly turned. What happened with Niall and Chance? She was amazing. She totally rocked, and I loved her voice and her attitude. Kelly loved how her voice projects. Blake said I am thinking vintage rock from the 70s and 80s and do a twist on it. I wanna blow it out one last time as a coach and I wanna do it with you, come on Allie. Wow! Allie chose Kelly, I would have gone with Blake on this one.

Jayda Klink sang No Air by Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown-- Wow, no one turned, she was good, but there were some nerves.

Walker Wilson sang Hurricane -- I really liked Walker's voice, I am somewhat shocked that no one else turned. Blake said you have a grit to what you do. You're on the right track with that sound. Kelly said yea that's what it is, I'm scared to go up against you Blake, I'm trying to help out grandpa on his last season.

Ali sang Killing Me Softly with His Songs-- Kelly and Chance turned straight away. I like how she transformed the song in so many cool ways. Chance said I am so stunned to hear that you're hearing impaired. Chance said I would love to hear you sing some gospel and Ali said she grew up singing it. I am shocked that she went with Kelly.

Manessah Simone sang I Will Rise Up by Andra Day-- Chance was the only one who turned. Manessah returned after not getting any chair turns last season. I feel like she definitely took the judges notes and worked on her verbratto. I'm happy for her.

Jerome Godwin III sang pov by Ariana Grande-- His voice is so unique and what an original song choice. Kelly and Niall both turned. Niall loved the dynamics in his voice. He ended up choosing Niall.

EJ Michels sang Easy on Me by Adele-- His tone!!! OMG! I love his full voice. He also has an amazing falsetto. Chance turned and was real surprised, and Blake turned just before the end of the performance. Chance said I want to hear you sing some Maxwell or D'Angelo. Blake said hi EJ, I know where Utah is. Your voice is so raw and honest, emotionally it kind of had me on the edge. Chance said I might be 100 from the field. EJ chose Blake!

Sophia Hoffman sang Amor Eterno-- Kelly advised her perfectly she needs to pick a song that shows the highs and lows of her voice. I think her performance was too old fashioned and pageanty.

Laura Littleton sang Sign of the Times by Harry Styles-- Three chair turn, she was good, she has that folksy voice. Everyone turned except Chance. Blake is upset that Kelly blocked him. Kelly said it's like Dolly meets Florence and the Machine. Niall said I like the natural shakes you have in your voice. The song is not an obvious pop song, it's a bit left. And you're a bit left. Laura picked Niall..... bahahaha Kelly wasted her block.

Faves of the night-- Ryley, EJ, Jerome, and Laura
