The Voice Season 8: Live! Team Blake and Team Pharrell

Team Blake and Team Pharrell perform tonight, Team Christina and Team Adam are tomorrow.

Team Blake: Sarah Potenza sang Freebird by Lynyrd Skynyrd-- Pharrell and Christina liked the song choice and the raw quality her voice exhibited. Adam liked how the guitar part was replaced by her vocals. He thought it was an interesting take on the song. Blake said this was Sarah's idea. To be honest, I didn't love it, I thought it was okay, but sometimes it sounded like she was shouting.

Team Pharrell: Caitlin Caporale sang Best Thing I Never Had by Beyonce-- Adam said it was amazing. Blake said you're starting to show yourself as a threat and the way you navigate the melody is great. Pharrell said I am proud of you cause you went inside and embraced who you are, and that has proven why you deserve to be here. I thought this was a strong vocal. Caitlin did have that confidence that Christina talked about which displayed itself in such an obvious way.

Team Blake: Hannah Kirby sang I Feel the Earth Move by Carole King-- Christina said it was her favorite performance of the night. Pharrell said as crazy as you are, that's entertainment, and you are a singer. Adam liked her fearlessness and lack of insecurity. Blake said she hits every note with precision and the reason we have a show like this is because of people like you. I wasn't as crazy about this performance as the judges were. It was a little bit too old fashioned for me, Hannah didn't bring the performance to now.

Team Pharrell: Lowell Oakley sang Jealous by Nick Jonas-- Adam said I am happy you were pushed to do this, I am happy Pharrell pushed you out of your comfort zone. Christina wondered if he could pull it off, but felt like as he progressed he got better. Pharrell said I hope it felt as good to you as it did to us. I actually liked it so much more than I thought I would. He proved that he was able to hang in there with a pop artist. What was cool was that he added his own vocal inflections to the song which really enhanced it.

Team Pharrell: Mia Z. sang Ain't No Sunshine by Bill Withers-- Adam said Mia, that was awesome. It keeps getting better. Blake said if I could pick one person to be on my team that is not, it would be you. You've been under the radar and you're the most underrated singer on this show. Christina loved the song choice, and she liked that it wasn't cliche. Pharrell said I am proud and confident, and for someone to be walking around at 16 with all that. Mia is clearly poised beyond her years. Her voice has so much maturity, it's pretty amazing that she sounds like that at her age. When she sings, I believe her. My fave of the night so far.

Team Pharrell: Koryn Hawthorne sang How Great Thou Art-- Christina said you're in amazing hands, what a beautiful song choice for you, you have so much poise. Pharrell said he is so happy for her. I liked Koryn and this was a cool song choice but it sounded like she was shouting at times. She had too much verbratto too in her voice, I felt like she had to get that under control. It seemed like she was pushing too much, maybe it was her tone, it sounded very nasal.

Team Blake: Corey Kent White sang To Make You Feel My Love by Bob Dylan-- Christina said you have a special way of engaging with the audience, you have a tenderness to your voice that makes every word so believable. Pharrell said he has a sincerity in his voice. Adam said he wanted more passion and unbridled power. Blake said the mark of a great country singer is to move people with your emotion and the story. Great job, I'm very proud of you. Corey did such a beautiful job connecting with this song, but his voice was pitch perfect.

Team Blake: Brooke Adee sang Love Me Like You Do by Ellie Goulding-- Christina said I saw your focus face and you had a great vocal and hit all the right notes. Pharrell liked how she exercised the sweet spot of her voice, you did such a great job performing it. Adam said be looser, it felt stiff sometimes, clearly you have the voice and the talent. Blake said the most impressive thing about Brooke to me is the lower register of your voice, it really cut through. Wowza, solid vocal in the house. I loved that. I do get Adam's point, but I think this song was a challenge for her and she stepped up.

Team Blake: Meghan Linsey sang Love Runs Out by One Republic-- Christina said it was great. Pharrell said I am so glad you were able to go back to where you wanted to be with Blake. Blake said you accomplished everything you wanted to. She definitely has vocal chops but her voice was a little wobbly and almost sounded like she cracked at one point.

Team Pharrell: Sawyer Fredericks sang Trouble by Ray Lamontagne-- Adam said he is far beyond his years. Blake said you're so good, keep doing what you do, I don't care what happens on this show, you're a star. Pharrell said I am proud of, you. I liked this performance but didn't love it. It almost seemed like he got lost about two thirds of the way through.

Who do I think is going home?

Going Home:
Team Blake: Hannah Kirby and Sarah Potenza
Team Pharrell: Caitlin Caporale and Koryn Hawthorne

The Voice Season 8: The Battles Are Complete

Team Adam: Barry Minniefield singing What You Won't Do for Love by Bobby Caldwell versus Tonya Boyd Cannon singing I Wish by Stevie Wonder-- Both performances were solid, I loved both of them. Barry has such a rich and powerful voice, and Tanya just goes out there with so much conviction every time. Blake felt like they should never be separated, they are already an act. Christina said you both represent similar things, I was feeling every second. Pharrell said Barry I look forward to your performances, you give so much soul, and Tanya, you can't hide the church in there. I can't make a choice.
Should win: Barry, love him
Who Won? Tanya

Team Blake: Brooke Adee singing Electric Feel by MGMT versus Kelsie May singing Tim McGraw by Taylor Swift-- I didn't feel like Kelsie's performance did a very good job of showcasing her range. Brooke's performance was definitely more intriguing for me, and I felt like her vocals were strong. Christina liked Brooke's voice, and she liked that Kelsie's performance was full of emotion. Blake said I want to leave, and Adam said please leave. Pharrell said that Brooke sounded like the b side of a Motown album. Adam said you're evenly matched, but I was very taken by what Brooke was doing.
Should win: Brooke
Who Won? Brooke

Team Christina: India Carney singing Big White Room by Jessie J versus Joe Tolo singing One of Us by Joan Osborne-- I am not familiar with the song India chose. I felt Joe's performance was quite genuine and from the heart. I felt like he did a good job on connecting with the song. As much as I like India, I think I would choose Joe. India's performance was powerful, but I found the song itself a little bit boring. Pharrell said Joe had a breakout moment, and he said India is glowing and he would choose her. Adam called India a beast.
Should win: Joe
Who Won? India

Team Pharrell: Lowell Oakley singing My Girl by The Temptations versus Jacob Rummell singing Life of the Party by Sean Mendes-- I think I actually like Jacob better than Lowell. Blake thought Lowell sounded great, and Jacob you have an incredible voice. Christina thought Jacob's performance was great and she would pick him, she thought Lowell seemed uncomfortable.
Should win: Jacob
Who Won? Lowell

Team Christina: Rob Taylor singing Love and Happiness by Al Green versus Treeva Gibson singing Chasing Pavements by Adele-- I loved Rob, he just has so much soul, it's ridiculous. I liked Treeva but she wasn't confident enough. It seemed like Christina felt similarly to how I felt.
Should win: Rob
Who Won? Rob

Team Adam: Joshua Davis singing The Arms of a Woman by Amos Lee versus Lexi Davila singing Anything Could Happen by Ellie Goulding-- I could not think of anything wrong with Josh's performance. It was heartfelt, and I loved how powerful the vocal was. It was controlled. Lexi absolutely lit up the stage, her voice completely sparkled. Blake is right, it's like something switched and all of a sudden she gained all this confidence. Blake said Josh looks like he is ready to go to the end of this thing. Christina said Josh pulls on your heart strings, and she said she has to commend Adam for coaching her so well. Pharrell said Joshua gave a masterful performance, and he said Lexi performed that song with such accuracy.
Should win: both of them!
Who won? Joshua and Christina please steal! YES!! Christina steals Lexi

The Battles Come to a Close: The Voice Season 8

Team Christina: Jeremy Gaynor versus Rob Taylor sang Animals by Maroon 5-- I genuinely liked both guys. Jeremy has such a rich velvety voice, and Rob has this amazing range while remaining soulful. Adam said he would probably go with Jeremy. I can't choose, they're both so different, I probably wouldn't have paired them up.
Christina chose Rob

Team Pharrell: Noelle Bybee versus Sawyer Fredericks sang Have You Ever Seen the Rain by Creedence Clearwater Revival-- Oh, they're both so sweet, I wish they weren't against each other either. Noelle has a beautiful tone, and Sawyer is such an artist, so interesting. Christina said Noelle's voice was angelic and Sawyer has a special gift. Pharrell said Noelle has grown so much and Sawyer truly supported his partner in this performance.
Pharrell chose Sawyer

Team Christina: Koryn Hawthorne versus Vance Smith sang Love Me Harder by Arianna Grande
Christina chose Koryn

Team Blake: Bay Brooks versus Brooke Adee sang Style by Taylor Swift
Blake chose Brooke

Team Adam: Bren'nea DeBarge versus Lexi Davila sang Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield
Adam chose Lexi

Team Blake: Corey Kent White versus Jacob Rummell sang I Want Crazy by Hunter Hayes-- This was my favorite of the night! I loved both of them. Corey is so cute and has such a cool voice. Jacob has a great range. Pharrell said Jacob your voice is different, and Corey you were strong and consistent. Blake said you both did everything I asked of you. He said this song was really in neither one of their wheelhouses.
Blake chose Corey and I know Pharrell is going to steal Jacob...... YES!

Night Two of the Blinds on The Voice Season 8

Anthony Riley sang I Feel Good by James Brown-- Anthony has a great voice, and that was made very clear when all four coaches turned around almost immediately. Anthony comes across to me like one of those old school Motown performers and as good as his voice is, his personality and charm is just as electric. Blake told Anthony he is not in over his head and loved watching his whole performance. Christina said he worked the audience. Pharrell said he is electric. Adam said the hardest thing to do is stay hot, and he can help him do that.
Anthony chose Pharrell

Gabriel Wolfchild sang Don't Think Twice by Bob Dylan-- Everyone turned except Pharrell. Adam said, you're the coolest dude ever. Blake said you're creative, you don't sing into peoples' ears, you sing into their heart. Christina said you'd be one of a kind for me. Gabriel said he would have picked Pharrell if he got four chairs. Pharrell told him to go with his spirit. Gabriel's performance didn't excite me, but I will say that I heard every single thing he said, and his performance was emotional.
Gabriel chose Christina

Brooke Adee sang Skinny Love by Birdy-- Adam and Blake turned almost right away. This girl has a great quality in her voice, I love her tone. There was shades of Sara McLachlan, but yet there was something about her that was so original, and the fact that she is 16 is crazy. Blake said you amaze me, you're a future star. Adam said that was an amazing performance, and I can't let Blake take you.The audience was chanting for Blake.
Brooke chose Blake

Dylan Dunlap sang Talk Dirty by Jason Derulo-- No one turned, it was the wrong song to flip. Too risky, it didn't sound good.

Tonya Boyd Cannon sang Happy by Pharrell-- I loved Tonya! She just sold the song, her personality was so great, and it just made me happy to watch her up on stage performing. Christina said you're awesome and I'm ready. Pharrell said I love people who take chances and it would be awesome to work together. Adam said there was 58 seconds between when I pushed my button and they pushed theirs, don't go with me, I think you should.
Tonya chose Adam

Joe Tolo sang To Love Somebody by The Bee Gees-- Christina and Blake turned. I didn't love the song, but I think Joe has talent. Christina said let's do this together, I want to win with you. Christina asked what kind of music he wants to sing, and he said soul, and Adam said I'm pretty sure Blake doesn't even have a soul.
Joe chose Christina

Drew Parker sang Workin' Man Blues by Merle Haggard-- I was surprised no one turned on this. Drew seems like such a nice guy with a great voice, I hope he comes back.

Mia Z sang The Thrill is Gone by BB King-- I thought she deserved a four chair turn. Only Blake and Pharrell turned. This girl has a ridiculous voice, and I loved the song she chose, wow! Blake said I never heard a performance like that. Pharrell said your range is insane. Blake said I am desperate for you to be on my team.
Mia chose Pharrell

Blaze Johnson sang How to Save a Life by The Fray-- Adam turned followed by Adam. I like Blaze's vocal, it's strong. Blake said I think you would be great on my team, and when you become famous, you can be your own security. Adam said you exist outside the box, I think you're astounding.
Blaze chose Adam

Bryan Piece sang Rocket Man by Elton John-- No one turned around. I feel like there was a lot of good and bad parts of that performance.

Deanna Johnson sang All I Want by Kodaline-- It was a four chair turn. Deanna's voice is haunting. Blake said that there is no one like her. Pharrell said I wasn't here when you came the first time, and I never would have let you go. Adam said I love that you came back and got four chairs to turn around.
Deanna chose Adam
