The Voice Season 25: Amazed by the Top 9!

Team Reba: Josh Sanders sang White Horse by Chris Stapleton-- What an awesome performance for Josh. I love this song for him. I can see him recording this right now. Josh is interesting in some of the other contestants in that he has been on an upward trajectory in this competition for a few weeks now. He keeps getting better. John loved that he showed a different side of himself and that he is a force to be reckoned with. Reba said it was wonderful and drew the audience in.

Team Dan and Shay: Madison Curbelo sang Time After Time by Cyndi Lauper-- I don't know what it is, but Madison keeps reminding me of Selena in every amazing way possible. She sounded so dreamy and strong. Her vocal was confident and emotional. Chance said he was blown away, she has a unique tone, and she has such a future ahead of her. He mentioned that her vocals sound like 90s Disney soundtracks which is pretty cool. Dan said you keep getting better and better, Chance leaned over to me and said she is so fire. Shay said she radiates light and is someone he would want his kids to look up to.

Bryan, Maddi, and Nathan sang Just Like Heaven by The Cure-- This song really suited Bryan the best, but I felt like the other artists made the best of it.

Team Chance: Serenity Arce sang We Can't Be Friends by Ariana Grande-- I loved this. I thought the song was a great choice for Serenity. It felt like she related, and really felt the song. It was contemporary and very much in line with the type of record I could see Serenity making. Reba said she sang beautifully and Chance was proud of her and liked how the song highlighted her voice.

Tae, Karen, and Josh sang Forever Young by Rod Stewart-- I think this was my fave trio, they sounded great together and complimented each other.

Team Chance: Maddi Jane sang Greedy by Tate McRae-- What I enjoy about Maddi is her versatility, she can literally sing just about anything and any genre. I love this song and it was a great performance. I don't know how it stands up against everyone else in the competition but I sure do enjoy listening to her and watching her. Chance said it was a Grammy level performance to him.

Team Legend: Nathan Chester sang Try a Little Tenderness by Otis Redding-- This guy does it every time. He is such a throwback and so true to who he is as an artist. I loved this from start to finish. He is the complete package, such an entertainer, and everyone was on their feet. John said that was incredible, the journey you took us on, the crowd went crazy.

Madison, Asher, and Serenity sang Fix You by Coldplay-- This was so angelic and soothing. I loved their vocals.

Team Legend: Bryan Olesen sang Against All Odds by Phil Collins-- Good song choice for Bryan. I liked this so much better than last week. Bryan took his time and it seemed that the song had meaning for him.  John loved the performance said he felt Bryan connected with the song. He said he approached each note with patience.

Team Dan and Shay: Karen Waldrup sang Stay by Sugarland-- Beautiful song choice for Karen and beautiful vocal. I thought it would be old fashioned but instead it was beautiful. Dan and Shay said it was unbelievable and felt that she wore her heart on her sleeve with that performance.

Team Reba: Asher Havon sang Irreplaceable by Beyonce-- This is so amazing! He did this song in his own style and it was an anthem!!! I just smiled and had some tears at the end, Asher is awesome, I love his confidence and who he is. John said my dad texted me this week and said Asher is the voice. You are the best vocalist in this competition. Reba said you floored me, I am so proud of you, thank you for shining for God, you did such a great job.

Team Dan and Shay: Tae Lewis sang Amazed by Lonestar-- Another great song choice tonight. This is such a good song for Tae. I liked the small changes he made to make it his own but he kept that strong and recognizable melody. Dan felt his performance was iconic, and called it incredible. Shay said how do you not love Tae Lewis, you have fought for your success on this show. Nashville is proud of you and we're proud of you forever.

Top 5 Prediction (in more particular order)

Team Reba: Asher Havon

Team Legend: Nathan Chester

Team Dan and Shay: Madison Curbelo

Team Chance: Serenity Arce

Final spot is such a toss up between Team Dan and Shay Karen Waldrup and Team Reba Josh Sanders

American Idol: Did Dance Tunes and the Adele Songbook Impress?

The answer is, only about half way. The dance tunes were not great. Out of seven performances, only three of them were really memorable. Adele's Songbook faired a little bit better.

Jack Blocker performed Long Tall Sally by Little Richard, it was such an authentically Jack performance.

Will Moseley's performance of Give Me Three Steps by Lynard Skynard was a win. I love how he continues to stay true to who he is as an artist.

Lastly, I loved Emmy Russell singing Shut Up and Dance by Walk the Moon. She slightly changed up the song and made it her own.

The Adela Songbook impressed me--

I did not think I would enjoy Jack performing One and Only, but it was amazing. It was practically a perfect song choice for him.

Emmy Russell did Water Under the Bridge which is one of my fave Adele songs. She is comfortable and intentional with her performance.

Triston Harper displayed so much maturity with his performance of Easy on Me. I loved how he connected with the song and made it his own.

Lastly, I need to shout out Abi Carter's performance of Hello. When she gets it right, she gets it right.

Julia and McKenna were sent home.

Jack, Will, Triston, Abi, and Emmy remain! What an amazingly solid top five, this is anyone's competition to win.

The Voice Season 25: Happier than ever watching the top 12 in the lives...

Team Legend: Bryan Olesen sang Don't Stop Me Now by Queen-- Good song choice in theory for Bryan but it felt too big for him at times, almost like it got away from him. The coaches were all positive with their feedback though saying that they felt like he was opening an award show.

Team Dan and Shay: Tae Lewis sang 19 You and Me by Dan and Shay-- Tae has such a great voice and basically sounds good with anything he chooses. Reba is thrilled he is still in the competition and says how much he deserves to be here. Dan and Shay tell him to soak in the moment.

Team Chance: Maddi Jane sang Happier Than Ever by Billie Eilish-- I love Maddi's range and I continue to be a fan of her. I am unsure whether this was the right song choice for her. John says she has been a star since the beginning and made the song her own. Chance says he is proud of her.

Team Reba: L Rodgers sang Up to the Mountain by Patty Griffin-- This is a perfect song choice for L. Something I love about her is how she feels the music and lyrics. Dan and Shay said she looks and sounds beautiful. Reba said that when L sings she really feels it and that's because she feels it first.

Team Dan and Shay: Madison Curbelo sang Yesterday by The Beatles-- What a heartfelt and genuine performance by Madison, this was such a beautiful choice that showcased her vocal. Hopefully the audience will connect with her performance and vote her through. Shay said he was so proud oh her, and he said when you sing, I feel something. It's not just your voice, but your spirit, your soul, your joy, and I am so glad that we get to be a part of it.

Team Reba: Asher HaVon sang I'll Make Love to You by Boyz II Men-- I loved this performance by Asher! I loved his runs and how he kept the melody of the song but at points put his own spin on it. I also enjoy how he continually changes up his look. This was the first real and complete performance of the night. All the coaches were on their feet. Chance said yea man that was crazy, if anyone out of Team Chance should win, it's you, you're an incredibly talented vocalist. Reba said the Lord put you on this Earth to sing, thank you to God for letting you be here with us for this time.

Team Legend: Zoe Levert sang Stick Season by Noah Kahan-- I thought this was such a great performance. This Noah Kahan song is exactly her jive, exactly what she should be singing and represents who she is as an artist. Dan said he was honored that Zoe used their song for her wedding. They loved her performance and thought that she was spot on and in the pocket.

Team Dan and Shay: Karen Waldrup sang I Hope You Dance by Lee Ann Womack-- I like how Karen is showing her artistry by playing the guitar and singing. The song choice and delivery was a little bit old fashioned for me but I do think she could have a career in country music right now. Reba said I am so happy for you, you did a wonderful job, and you sounded spectacular. Shay said younger you would have sang this song to you. I am so proud of you.

Team Chance: Serenity Arce sang Traitor by Olivia Rodrigo-- I agree with Chance, I think what makes Serenity so special is the way she connects with every song. This performance was no exception. The whole thing was amazing. Dan said that was sick, so powerful, I can't believe you're only 17, that blows my mind. Chance said you make the stage your own every time, your performances are heartfelt and intentional.

Team Chance: Nadege sang He Loves Me by Jill Scott-- One of my favorite performances of the night. This was raw, sultry, real. I literally loved everything about that. It was mesmerizing. She feels similar to how the singer Sade felt in the 80s and 90s. John said this was a perfect song for you; this is you. Chance said you have had so many great performances, this was right up your alley.

Team Reba: Josh Sanders sang Angels by Thomas Rhett-- That was such a great song choice for Josh. I feel like he connected to that song and as a result I really did too. Shay said I am going to cry, that was unbelievable. You have been only you since the beginning of this competition. Reba said that touched my heart. I love that relationship you have. You sold that song with your heart.

Team Legend: Nathan Chester sang Higher and Higher by Jackie Wilson-- This is another complete performance. I don't think this guy has made one misstep in this competition. He is amazing. I feel like he is one of those people who you cannot wait to see him and see what he does. John said they love him too much, the crowd is so loud I can't talk. He said you had such a clarity, who you wanted to be. You sing amazing and you perform amazing, you're such a pleasure.

My Predictions: Bryan, Maddi, and Karen are your bottom three.

American Idol: We're Down to 7

This is the week where the judges each choose a song for the contestants and the contestants pick which song they want to sing. Katy Perry won the night, I have to admit she is great at choosing songs suited to the contestants strengths.

Here are my highlights--

The tribute to Mandisa by Melinda Doolittle, Danny Gokey, and Colton Dixon was amazing. They sang a song called Shackles that Mandisa has performed many times. It was so beautiful to see how her spirit will live on and how so many people from the American Idol community looked up to her.

Will Moseley sang Folsom Prison Blues by Johnny Cash-- this was the perfect choice for him. He sounds like he's been doing this forever. This is totally his wheelhouse and the type of music he should be recording.

Kaibrienne really connected with her song choice, Traitor by Olivia Rodrigo, she was a little pitchy but I think that's the breathiness of her voice. The emotion was all there so I would say she "won" this week. She brought it all back and together by the end.

McKenna missed this week with her song choice and her performance, I didn't love this. The song was not even notable for me.

Jack Blocker sang You Are Always on My Mind by Willie Nelson, good song choice for Jack but I found his performance a little bit boring. There wasn't anything memorable about it.

Abi Carter was probably my favorite performance of the night with Bring Me to Life by Evanescence-- This was so passionate and dramatic. She was a total pro up there and brought this performance to life.

Julia Gagnon sang Over the Rainbow by Judy Garland-- this was the right choice for her at the right time, she totally needed this. I have not been a big fan of hers in general, she should have gone home weeks ago, but this was a strong performance. I am happy for her and hope she can turn it around.

Triston Harper sang Sand in my Boots by Morgan Wallen-- I did not love this choice for him, but I love Triston, he has so much confidence and he has remained true to himself throughout this competition and that says a lot with him being so young. He is in such a good place right now.

Emmy Russell sang Coal Miner's Daughter by her grandmother Loretta Lynn-- Emmy was my other fave performance of the night. This was stunning, she sang it in a completely different way than her grandmother did, and it completely worked and spoke to who she is as an artist.  I could not have loved this more.

At the end of the night it was Kaibrienne who was sent home. It came down to her and McKenna and the judges chose McKenna to move forward. I think McKenna and Jack should have been the bottom two.

The Voice Season 25: Reba and Chance Pick their Playoff Teams

Team Reba: Josh Sanders sang Black Water by the Doobie Brothers-- Josh turned in a good performance, but I wasn't moved. I don't know if he did enough to advance to the live shows. I felt like the song choice did not highlight his vocal strengths. John said he killed it and is seeing new sides of him. Reba felt like it was his best performance. Chance and Dan and Shay called out his consistency.

Team Chance: Nadege sang Clocks by Coldplay-- Reba said her tone is warm and rich like a cashmere sweater. Chance called it one of the best performances on the show and said it felt like a spiritual experience. Gorgeous and angelic vocal by Nadege, I loved this!

Team Reba: Justin and Jeremy Garcia sang Castle on a Hill by Ed Sheeran-- I did not understand these two at first when they came on this show, but this performance was stellar, I found myself really wanting them to advance to the lives. They deserve amazing things going forward.  Dan and Shay called it magical. John felt it was the tightest they have sounded. Reba said it was much better than rehearsals.

Team Chance: Kyle Schuesler sang Something in the Orange-- Julia on American Idol sang this, it did nothing for her voice to show her dynamics and the same thing is happening to Kyle. If you don't stand out, you won't move to lives most likely. A shame cause he is such an artist.  Reba enjoyed it and said it made her feel comfortable and relaxed. Dan and Shay said he made it his version.

Team Reba: Jackie Romeo sang The Story by Brandi Carlile-- This performance was so genuine and beautiful. Jackie is an artist who feels every performance with her heart. Chance said she brought up the energy of the room. John said she was the most complete package so far. Reba said she sings like an angel.

Team Chance: Serenity Arce sang Lose You to Love Me by Selena Gomez-- I love Serenity, I was not crazy about this song choice for her. She had all the attitude and she sold the song, but the song from a dynamics standpoint doesn't really go anywhere. This girl is a contender though. Dan and Shay felt convinced with her performance. Chance felt she made an emphatic statement. Reba thought she checked every box.

Team Reba: L Rodgers sang All I Know So Far by Pink-- L has such a gift for emoting and telling a story. This was a beautiful song choice for her. Shay said every moment up there is the most important in your life, you're so passionate. John said we see who you are. Reba said you tell a story with your face and actions.

Team Chance: Rletto sang Holy by Justin Bieber and Chance the Rapper-- Love how Rletto continues to be so true to himself and his artistry. This was such a cool song choice for him, I loved that he kept certain parts the same cause they're sacred. There were parts were he made it his own and it was tasteful. Shay said it is always something different from you, but always you. He said he deserves to be in the lives.

Team Reba: Asher HaVon sang Titanium by David Guetta and Sia-- Anthony Ramos said Asher's voice is a whirlwind. Asher is amazing! He literally deserves to win this whole damn thing. Shay said this felt like a Grammy moment. Dan felt like he could win this whole thing. John said certain things about you remind me of Whitney Houston. That was divine. Chance said it's cool to watch someone on their way, it's like we forget you're in this competition. Reba said you command the stage so well. The song was great for you, I hope you feel great about it, and to hear my fellow coaches talk about you like that, I am so proud.

Team Chance: Maddi Jane sang Stay by Rihanna-- Maddi was theatrical, strong, emotional, and she rose to the occasion at the right time. I loved how I felt like I was seeing her for the first time. This was beautiful. Shay said you're not a gem, you're a straight diamond. John said every note felt intentional, this was a masterclass. Chance said I am so proud of you, it's beautiful to see you be yourself every week. I love your cool confidence.

My Predictions:
Team Reba: Asher, L Rodgers, Justin and Jeremy
Team Chance: Maddi, Rletto, Serenity

Their Picks:
Team Chance: Serenity, Maddi, Nadege
Team Reba: Asher, Josh, L Rodgers

4 out of 6, not bad.

American Idol Update: Now There Are 10

Great nights of mentoring with both Gene Simmons from KISS and Meghan Trainor. There were a handful of special performances from the night. I am just going to speak about the highlights.

Will Moseley sang Starting Over by Chris Stapleton-- Every performance from Will feels like you're at his concert and this was no exception.

Mia Matthews sang Over You by Miranda Lambert-- This was a perfect song choice from her. She delivered the vocals, the artistry, and the emotion. This was a special moment where she could easily measure up to the other heavy hitter females in this competition-- McKenna, Abi, and Emmy.

Roman Collins sang Roar by Katy Perry-- This was so good! I am so disappointed that he did not advance in the competition. It's truly special how he is making gospel music so front, center, and contemporary. I hope Katy does do this version next time she goes out on tour.

Jack Blocker sang Blinding Lights by The Weeknd-- He totally gives me Phillip Phillips vibes. I LOVE his version of this song. I love how Jack stays so true to himself. He is unapologetic and I love that.

Abi Carter
McKenna Faith Reinholt
Will Moseley
Kayko
Kaibrienne

The Voice Season 25: John and Dan and Shay Pick Their Playoff Teams

Team Legend: Nathan Chester sang Oh Darling! by The Beatles-- Reba says he had her at the beginning. Chance loved his choreography and tone. Dan and Shay said it was his best performance. John agreed and liked his conviction. Wow! Everyone was on their feet, for me, that was a masterclass performance. Nathan is a force to be reckoned with. He has so much passion and you can tell he really wants this. This performance was EVERYTHING!

Team Dan and Shay: Karen Waldrup sang Heart Like a Truck by Lainey Wilson-- Reba said she wanted Karen on her team. Chance loves how she interacts with the crowd and her confidence. Dan and Shay are proud of how she has progressed. There is no denying Karen's voice. I think she has experienced more growth than the majority of the contestants on the show this season.

Team Legend: Kamalei Kawa'a sang No Woman No Cry by Bob Marley-- Reba loves how he conveys strength in his singing. John likes how he is honoring Bob Marley's legacy. I wish John had pushed Kamalei to diversify his song selection more. I think he has a good voice but I feel like I have heard him sing all the same type of song.

Team Dan and Shay: Anya True sang All Too Well by Taylor Swift-- John says it felt like the right song for her and he found her performance compelling. Dan and Shay said it was their fave Anya performance.

Team Legend: Bryan Olesen sang Africa by Toto-- John said he was glad that he used his playoff pass on Bryan cause he deserved it. He said he felt like he was at Bryan's concert. Reba called him the perfect package. Chance said he is 100% a rockstar.

Team Dan and Shay: Olivia Rubini sang I'll Stand by You by The Pretenders-- John said Olivia you are always such a wonderful singer. You were trying to find some rock and roll in your voice but it wasn't the right place for this song. I agree with John, I didn't like how she put those random high parts in there.

Team Legend: Mafe sang Someone Like You by Adele-- Chance said I think she should go to the lives. Shay said you're an amazing singer and should definitely go to the lives. Shay didn't like the melodic changes she made; John disagreed. Great song choice for Mafe! I loved this, she also gets into a place where she does similar song but she is special enough.

Team Day and Shay: Tae Lewis sang Runnin' Outta Moonlight by Randy Hauser-- I thought this performance was good. I think Tae is someone you can count on to always deliver a consistent performance. Chance said he would put Tae on his playoff team. Reba said that everyone wants to hear what Tae is going to do next. Dan and Shay felt he delivered.

Team Legend: Zoe Levert sang Iris by The Goo Goo Dolls-- Chance said it was his favorite performance. Chance said she is so captivating. Dan has loved every performance she has done. Reba said girl toy brought, your voice, your stage presence, your look, absolutely beautiful. John you gotta take her to the lives. John said Zoe is becoming a star before our eyes. She's contender for me, she's unique, she's true to herself. I love Zoe.

Team Dan and Shay: Madison Curbelo sang Landslide by Fleetwood Mac-- Reba said I love your voice, you gave me chills. Chance said I want a copy of that performance, I want to listen to it again. John said what you did up there felt so easy. Shay said I could talk about you all night. I loved that! I was definitely getting Selena vibes but she is also all her own. That was so touching and heartfelt.

My picks for John: Nathan, Mafe, and Zoe

My picks for Dan and Shay: Karen, Tae, and Madison

UPDATE:

The only one I got wrong.... I picked Mafe, John picked Bryan who I do think it actually talented. The rest I got totally right, 5/6!

The Voice Season 25: The Knockouts Offer Some Interesting Pairings

Team Chance: Maddi Jane sang New Rules by Dua Lipa versus Kamalei Kawa sang All of Me by John Legend-- Dan and Shay said that this was two very different performances in the best kind of way. I agree, Maddi's performance was rhythmic and catchy. Kamalei offered an emotional performance and you could tell he was really feeling the song. John is often critical of people singing his song but said that he was really into Kamalei's version and reminded them that he still has a steal. Reba said Chance is on his own with this choice because she thought both of them were good. I think even though I am a Maddi fan, the stronger performance here was Kamalei. Chance chose Maddi, and Kamalei was stolen by Reba and John and picked John.

Team Legend: Gene Taylor sang I Don't Wanna Miss a Thing by Aerosmith versus Mafe sang Almost is Never Enough by Ariana Grande-- Gene is technically such a sound artist but this is a tough song to sing. Dan and Shay talked about what a great singer Gene is from a technical standpoint. Chance said Mafe did not sound like Mafe, she sounded like herself. Something I notice about Mafe is that she has great vocal control. I love how she sounds and her confidence really exudes. John chose Mafe.

Team Dan and Shay: Karen Waldrup sang Georgia Rain by Trisha Yearwood versus Ducote Talmage-- Both of these artists have experienced some growth but I think I would need to lean towards Ducote. John continues to like Ducote's rasp, and he thought Karen's performance was beautiful. Reba loves the texture in Ducote's voice; Reba loved Karen's performance. Chance said that was Ducote's best performance to date; he thought Karen sounded like Celine Dion. Dan and Shay chose Karen to move forward.

Team Reba: Justin and Jeremy Garcia sang You Are the Reason by Calum Scott versus Zeya Rae sang River by Bishop Briggs-- I think I would need to go with Justin and Jeremy. Chance said Zeya lacked confidence at points. John connected more with Zeya. Reba thought Justin and Jeremy did a wonderful job. She picked the brothers because she wanted something different on her team. Reba chose Justin and Jeremy.

Team Chance: Alyssa Crosby sang I Guess That's Why They Call it the Blues by Elton John versus Rletto  sang Stay by Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber-- Loved Alyssa, this song was not the best pick for me, but I loved her. I think she is such a grounded artist. Rletto was so good. He literally took an upbeat song and turned it into a slow jam. It sounded like a brand new song but at the same time, Kid Laroi and Justin would love it. Dan said one of the best knockout performances of the day by you Alyssa; Rletto always bringing the heat with that arrangement. Shay said I believed every word you said. Reba said she was proud of Alyssa and would go with her because of her growth. Chance said Rletto you showed a mastery of the song. Alyssa you did great from top to bottom. Chance chose Rletto.

Team Legend: Zoe Levert sang Cowboy Take Me Away by The Dixie Chicks versus Jackie Romeo sang Love on the Brain by Rihanna-- Both of them sounded amazing. I think I would need to go with Zoe, what she channeled was amazing. Chance said Zoe you are going to be a star, Jackie you sang the mess out of that song. Dan said Jackie you have a powerful voice and such control. Dan said Zoe you nailed your range, you remind me of Taylor Swift, you're unapologetically yourself. John said Jackie, you embraced the energy of the song, it was in control the way you handled the dynamics. Zoe, we're continuing to see you grow and you're an underdog that keeps rising to the occasion. John chose Zoe, and Reba stole Jackie.

My recap: Kamalei is coming up in this competition, Mafe is holding strong, RLETTO is a star, and Zoe is turning into a star.

American Idol: Update

In a MAJOR upset, Julia Gagnon made it into the Top 20 and sent my Top 10 face prediction Hailey Mia home! I am shocked! Even tonight, Julia's performance of Fantasia's, I Believe, was shaky and had pitch issues throughout.

The Top 24 was narrowed down to 20, and Blake Proehl, Hailey Mia, KBlocks, and Elleigh Marie were all sent packing. Tomorrow night, the Top 14 will be revealed, the Top 10 will be from America's votes, and then the judges will pick four wildcards.

I will say after hearing everyone, I need to say that I am throwing my support behind McKenna Faith Breinholt to make the Top 10. She closed the show on Day One last week when Tori Kelly mentored. The Voice Season 25: Surprisingly Jaded Beginning to the Knockouts

Team Reba: Asher HaVon sang Unbreak My Heart by Toni Braxton versus Tae Lewis sang Nothin' on You by Cody Johnson-- Asher sounded amazing, I love how he sang the song the way a man would sing it. The tone of his voice is incredible, the runs he did at the end, and the way he improvised and made the song his own is proof that he should continue in this competition. Tae's performance was so soulful. I can see him being on the radio and being a country star right now. Chance said it was one of the best performances he has seen on The Voice. Dan and Shay said Asher's runs were intentional, Tae stepped up. John said Asher was regal and his low notes were sang with so much power. He said Tae sang the hell out of that. John promised a spot for whoever did not get chosen. Reba voiced how proud she is of both of them.
Reba chose Asher and everyone tried to steal Tae!! Tae chose Dan and Shay.

Team Dan and Shay: Olivia Rubini sang Tiny Dancer by Elton John versus Frank Garcia sang El Triste-- I think it's hard to sing in Spanish with a song that is not particularly well known. I think Olivia is the stronger vocalist, but I think this was the wrong song for her. I would have liked to have seen her sing something more contemporary like a Tate McRae or Olivia Rodrigo. John compliments the richness of Frank's voice and the range of Olivia's. Dan and Shay said Frank blew them away and Olivia came such a long way from rehearsals. Dan and Shay chose Olivia.

Team Legend: Nathan Chester sang Fooled Around and Fell in Love by Elvin Bishop versus Val T. Webb sang Sweet Love by Anita Baker-- Nathan is a throwback to another time. I just love the ease of his voice and the songs he chooses for himself, he knows who he is as an artist. I think Val is great, seasoned pro, and strong voice, but I am leaning more towards Nathan, I am just more excited with his vocal and the total package. Dan and Shay loved the way Nathan got into the performance and there was something that moved them about his performance. John loved the high's of Val's performance. With Nathan, there was something cinematic about his performance, like he was living in another time and bringing that character to life. John chose Nathan.

Team Chance: Dani Stacy sang Jaded by Miley Cyrus versus Serenity Arce sang Unfaithful by Rihanna-- Loved Dani's performance, song choice was great for her, and she made the song her own. She didn't do it exactly the way Miley does which was great, but she has some of that rasp that Miley does. It seemed that Serenity struggled a little through that. Chance said Dani you are a talented vocalist and I loved your passion on stage. Serenity you took a lot of risks, but compared to other performances, this was not as solid. Chance chose Serenity because she is passionate and was willing to go for it with her performance.

Team Reba: Ashley Bryant sang Heads Carolina, Tails California by Jo Dee Messina versus Josh Sanders sang Wild as Her by Corey Kent-- Josh gave an awesome performance. I loved it, I feel like he took all the feedback Reba and Keith Urban gave him. I felt that performance. Ashley was great too! I feel like she has grown quite a bit in this competition. Chance said cool performance to Ashley, but I wanted more risks. Josh you took all the risks, he's leaning more toward Josh. Shay said Josh that last note was absolute fire. Dan and Shay would give the edge to Josh. John loved the cry in Ashley's voice; Josh, you stuck the landing with that note at the end. Reba said I love you both, thanks for taking the journey. Reba chose Josh.

Team Dan and Shay: Anya True sang Runaway by Aurora versus Kyle Schuesler sang Say You Won't Let Go by James Arthur-- I have to be honest, the song Anya chose did not resonate with me at all. I enjoy her as an artist and vocalist but I was not moved by that performance. I dislike the song choice but I think Kyle is a little stronger as a vocalist and understands his identity as an artist a little better than Anya. John liked Anya's tone; Kyle your voice has a magical and powerful quality. He would go with Kyle. Chance said Kyle I get excited to see you perform; Anya I really like your voice, so delicate. He'd lean towards Anya. Dan and Shay said that they needed more time. They chose Anya. Chance stole Kyle.

Who did I love from tonight?
Asher, Tae, Nathan, and Kyle. Serenity is talented but fell a little for me tonight.

The Voice Season 25: The Battles Continue and We're "Lucky"

Team Reba: Donny Van Slee versus Josh Sanders sang When it Rains it Pours by Luke Combs-- I thinnk they're both great, personally I have been a Donny fan since day one, but Josh is likable as well. Chance says Donny is a star and he compliments Josh's runs. He says she can't lose with either. Dan and Shay liked their energy but say that Josh has better control over his vocals. John felt Josh's performance was well executed. Reba bonded with them both and doesn't want to make a decision.
Reba chose Josh

Team Legend: Ronnie Wilson versus Gene Taylor sang When I Was Your Man by Bruno Mars-- This was actually what seemed to be such an odd pairing to me, but these two turned in an amazing performance. Ronnie impressed me because he kept up with Gene who was fierce. Gene has incredible intuition. Reba loved both their tones and thought they were crazy on the high notes. Chance says that they have cool individual voices that mesh well together. Dan and Shay said some of Gene's high notes weren't legal. John thought the performance was honest, authentic, and full of heart.

Team Dan and Shay: Kyle Schuesler versus Madison Curbelo sang Lucky by Jason Mraz-- I found the song a little boring, but I love the artistry of both Kyle and Madison. They are both amazing and I hope both of them stay in the competition. John reminded them that he turned for both of them and that he loved their beautiful performance. He'd lean towards Madison. I would give the edge to Serenity because to be that young and that talented is crazy. Shay said Serenity I believed every word, emotional and raw. He said Bri sometimes was trying to be so perfect that she felt outside of the song. Dan complimented their friendship. John said I love when I see artists collaborate together, thank you for embracing that. Bri you have a lot of range, Serenity you're very compelling, I'd pick Serenity. Reba picked up on the emotion. Serenity you channelled that into a great performance. Reba would pick Bri. Chance said Serenity you have a specific tone, you're poised and polished. Bri you're such a strong singer and you have great control. This is a tough decision.  Chance chose Serenity.

Montaged:

Team Chance: Dani Stacey versus Corey Curtis, Chance chose Dani

Team Dan and Shay: Ryan Coleman versus Ducote Talmage sang Rock and a Hard Place by Bailey Zimmerman-- I genuinely enjoyed both of them. I loved the energy that Ducote brought and I think that he was more confident than Ryan. Ryan had the better control and I loved the sense of fight he brought to the battle. John loves the scratch in Ducote's voice, he loved Ryan's interaction. He'd lean towards Ducote. Reba said you guys sounded great together. She'd go with Ducote. Chance said Ryan really wanted it, you had great control. You helped Ducote. If it was my choice, I'd go Ryan. Dan and Shay talked before they made a decision and they went with Ducote.

Team Legend: Olivia Rubini versus Jackie Romeo sang Edge of Seventeen by Fleetwood Mac-- They both have awesome voices, quite underrated. I love Jackie's tone. Olivia has such an edge to her voice. The Voice Season 25: A Million Reasons to Watch The Battles

Team Dan and Shay: Justin and Jeremy Garcia versus Frank Garcia sang A Million Reasons by Lady Gaga-- Wow I really loved how their voices blended and complimented each other. The dynamics were impressive as well. This was a cool arrangement on Lady Gaga's song. The coaches were on their feet. John said Justin and Jeremy you guys are in sync and Frank your voice. John would go with Frank. Reba said so much talent under the age of 20, it reminded her of singing with her family. She would go with Justin and Jeremy. Chance said that was fire, and he would use the playoff pass at this time. Dan and Shay said they sounded so good as a unit. Dan and Shay chose Frank. Reba stole Justin and Jeremy.

Team Reba: William Alexander versus Zeya Rae sang Give Me a Reason by Pink-- There is something about William that really intrigues me. Zeya was a one chair turn and she really has grown considerably. Chance said if I could grab you up right now, I would. Shay said William it's incredible that you're 16. Dan and Shay would choose Zeya. John said Zeya your performance was precise, William you were looking for the melody.  John would choose Zeya. Reba chose Zeya.

Team Chance: Maddi Jane versus Nadege sang Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You by Lauryn Hill-- This was so good. I loved the arrangement, loved their voices individually and together, it was fire. All the Emmy Fashion 2024

I meant to post this weeks ago and time just got away but I wanted to share my best dressed choices from the Emmy Awards!

I loved that there were so many different colors, textures, prints, and shapes.

Sarah Snook and Camila Morrone were both ladies in red. Sarah wore a dramatic Vivienne Westwood ballgown. Camila's gown was more form fitting with a beautiful train. Made by Versace, the scoop neckline and spaghetti straps just made it so feminine.

Selena Gomez was sultry and stunning in a sparkling illusion dress from Oscar de la Renta. The dress included 450,000 sequins that covered in all the right places.

It girl Ali Wong was fun and sparkly in a custom Louis Vuitton gown with a silver bodice and a bright beaded, floral skirt. She wore platform black shoes.

Christina Ricci went with a bold plunging neckline wearing a black velvet Saint Laurent gown with Martin Katz jewels, emeralds and diamonds to be exact. She accessorized with a leather clutch.

Zuri Hall wore the most beautiful chocolate brown Wayne Clark gown. The lines and shape were simply gorgeous.

Claire Danes was pretty in pink vintage Balmain. Everything about her look was old Hollywood glamour. The back of the dress in particular had beautiful details including jewels on each shoulder.

The Voice Season 25: We Don't Need Another Hero! The Battles Begin

Team Legend: Bryan Olesen and Nathan Chester sang Rolling in the Deep by Adele-- Thought both of them were great. They made this song brand new to me and I loved this version of it. Both are strong vocalists, I think I'd give the edge to Bryan but Nathan was great too. Reba said the performance was incredible and she loved the harmony. She couldn't choose. Chance said Nathan had strong personality and he loved Bryan's dynamics. He also could not choose a winner. Dan said they were locked in and in sync. Dan and Shay said that they could not choose a winner. John chose Nathan and gave Bryan his playoff pass!  Dan and Shay and Reba tried to steal.

Team Dan and Shay: Karen Waldrup versus Ryan Argast sang Save Me the Trouble by Dan and Shay-- The song lended itself so well to both of them and both of their voices. They were so good. I felt like they both came up big here. Ryan has that rasp in his voice and Karen is just special. John said he regrets nnot having turned for Karen. Reba said you guys are a great duet. Chance said Ryan was more passionate but Karen you're a true talent. Dan said your presence on stage Ryan is incredible. Karen you rose to the occasion. Shea said Karen your voice reminds me of old country and Ryan you're a powerhouse. Dan and Shay chose Karen to move on.

Team Reba: L. Rodgers versus Tae Lewis sang We Don't Fight Anymore by Chris Stapleton-- Wow! They were both amazing, two powerhouses in their own regard. I loved both of them and the passion and emotion that they poured in, I'd give the edge to Tae, but I loved both of them. Chance said Tae your pitch and control, and L you were right there. Dan said you covered the heck out of that. Shay said I have no idea what you should do. John said your range is crazy Tae. Reba said she could not have asked for more than that. Reba chose Tae to move forward. She used her playoff pass on L.

Team Chance: Gabriel Goes versus Kamalei Kawa sang Over the Rainbow-- So well done, each of them is so unique, so true to who he is but at the same time, came together to make this beautiful performance. Loved the ending, so good! Shay loved the energy that they brought. Song selection was awesome and it brought good vibes. Dan and Shay didn't choose. John said Gabriel you do unexpected things with your voice, Kamalei you're so graceful. Reba said you two are both opposite, Kamalei I love your voice, and Gabriel you have a great voice too. Chance said Gabriel everyone likes you, and you rise to every occasion. He loved the heart that Kamalei brought to the performance. Chance chose Kamalei.

Team Legend: OK3 versus Zoe Levert sang The Bones by Maren Morris-- Great song choice! Love this. Zoe did a great job of shining against three artists. Reba thought it was incredible. She said Zoe you kinda blew me away. Chance said Zoe you surprised me, you were like a pop star. It was close but I'd go with Zoe. Shay said Zoe you were incredible, you felt so intentional to me. He would go with OK3 cause of their harmonies. John was impressed with how Zoe sounded like a lead singer. He chose Zoe.

Chance said Asher your tone is incredible. Alyssa you came through. Asher you are gonna do amazing things on the show. Shay said you were incredible. Dan said Asher you blew me away. The Voice Season 25, The Last of The Blinds, It Took a Long Long Time

Val T Webb sang Nobody's Supposed to be Here by Deborah Cox-- This was a four chair turn. She sounds like a seasoned vocalist. John said she sounds like she sings at church and she agreed and said she has been a worship director for many years as well as a background vocalist. Chance said she had great breath control. Dan and Shay said she is not a backup singer anymore. Reba said there was nothing to critique. Val chose Chance.

Joewun Bee sang Over My Head by The Fray-- I actually loved him and I am not sure why nobody turned?

Kyle Schuesler sang The Scientist by Coldplay-- He has a unique tone, style, and voice. Everyone turned but Chance. Chance made a point of saying that if he had more slots he would have turned. Reba found his voice soothing. John said you did some of what Chris Martin does but you also made the song your own. He also loved his falsetto. Dan and Shay loved the falsetto and what he brought to the table. They felt like he also brought some originality. Kyle chose Dan and Shay.

L Rodgers sang Wild Horses-- She has a really cool voice. I loved the song choice. Reba turned at the very last minute. Reba loved her voice-- the roundness and the fullness. John said he loved her vibe. L happily joined Team Reba.

Raina Chan sang Hold My Hand-- performance was kind of shaky, she's so young though!

Olivia Rubini sang Long Long Time-- I initially didn't love the song much, but Olivia made me a believe. She has a warm voice, and was the missing piece on John Legend's team.

All the teams are full!

The Voice Season 25, Week 3, Episode 5: This City's Got Me Chasing Stars

Episode 5:

Ronnie Wilson sang Pillowtalk by Zayn-- He has an interesting voice, it started off a little rough and his voice was a little lost in the arrangement. I think he's intriguing though. John turned at the beginning and Reba near the middle. Reba said she could embellish, not change his voice. John liked how he made the song his own, and loved what he did stylistically. Ronnie chose John.

Zoe Levert sang Better Man by Taylor Swift-- I loved the song choice and performance. This was so good! John snuck in at the last minute and turned. Zoe told the coaches that she is getting married and Dan and Shay's song From the Ground Up is her wedding song. They did a personal serenade for her and her fiance. Zoe joined Team John.

Ducote Talmage sang Sand in my Boots by Morgan Wallen-- Wow, I am so surprised Queen Reba did not turn. He gave a classic country performance. John said I loved the scratch in your voice. I do know what a great song is and I can help you put together a great performance. Dan and Shay pitched themselves as country artists who could help him finish and write songs. Ducote said his full time job is a firefighter. Ducote chose Dan and Shay.

JJ Higgins sang Return to Pooh Corner-- No one turned but such a powerful story.

Serenity Arce sang This City by Sam Fischer-- I am obsessed with this four chair performance. Blake told her two years ago to come back and wow, she is amazing. I love the grit in her voice. John blocked Dan and Shay. I cannot believe she is only 16. John said I am so proud of you for coming back. Dan said he felt that performance beat down in his soul. Chance said that was amazing, you're so dedicated to giving a good performance. Reba said I feel like I could use my experience to steer you in the right direction. Serenity chose Chance.

Emma Valentine sang Love Grows-- I am not loving the song choice and I think that's why no one turned.

Ryan Coleman sang Ain't No Sunshine by Bill Withers-- I think this is a tough song to sing and I loved his version of this. He made it his own and seemed comfortable as well. Shocked the coaches aren't turning. Yes! Dan and Shay turned. Shay loved his tone and said he clearly has an identity. Dan said that whole performance was so good, I can't wait to find out more who you are. Ryan joined Team Dan and Shay.

Zeya Rae joined Team Reba

AJ Harvey sang Girl From The North Country by Bob Dylan-- He has a unique voice, I loved the song choice and his vibe, this was just so good. His voice is so rich and round. I love his tone. Chance and Dan and Shay turned. Reba loved his voice. John loved his baritone and how expressive he is. Dan loved the richness of the bass notes. Shay said you were in the song the whole time and I felt in it with you. You're an artist. Chance said I know soul when I see it, I related to that. I was the first person to turn. AJ chose Dan and Shay.

Moelle sang Always Remember Us This Way by Lady Gaga-- no one turned.

Chance loved the arrangement she did, he said he wants to show America who she is. Reba said you are very at ease and comfortable. There are so many things I can help you with, you inspire me. John said she sounded like Brandy. He regrets not turning. Shay said I can tell you love what you do. Dan said your talent is insane, everyone was having fun, that's contagious. Elyscia chose Reba.

The Voice Season 25, Week 2: These auditions are going to the Ceilings!

Episode 3:

Bryan Olesen sang Til the Love Runs Out by One Republic-- This was a great performance; I enjoy Bryan's energy. Apparently he used to sing lead for a popular Christian group Newsboys. Everyone turned except Chance. Dan and Shay said that they thought someone famous was performing. Bryan has a grown daughter and she sings as well. Wow, this family is talented. He ended up choosing Team Legend.

Frank Garcia sang Love in the Dark-- he has such a full round tone. Frank totally reminds me of Sam Smith. Dan and Shay are the only ones to turn and I don't quite understand.

Kamalei Kawa sang Redemption Song by Bob Marley-- It's clear that Kamalei feels this song and is passionate about the lyrics and his culture. I loved every choice he made in that performance. I loved when he went into his falsetto. I was surprised that Chance and Reba were the only ones who turned. Chance felt his passion. Reba said the performance touched her heart and felt spiritual to her. Kamalei chose Chance.

Ashley Bryant sang Last Name by Carrie Underwood-- This performance felt a little ordinary to me, but Ashley has an interesting story. Queen Reba turned and if anyone can find her star quality, it's Reba.

Asher Havon sang Set Fire to the Rain by Adele-- Everyone turned except John. Asher has a round full voice; he grew up singing in church and you can tell. Reba says she could not wait to turn to see what he looks like. Dan and Shay commented on his lower register and high notes. Chance said he can tell that he is in it to win. Asher chose Reba.

Jackie Romeo sang Flowers by Miley Cyrus-- I have to be honest, John turned immediately, and then Dan and Shay turned for her, but I would not have, she was pretty pitchy. There were some definite issues throughout. Dan and Shay admitted that she seemed nervous. John felt like this song was perfect for her.
Jackie chose John.

Rivers Grayson sang Babylon by David Gray-- I wasn't particularly moved by this, but John did turn and called his performance subtle, he said it had beauty.
John chose Rivers.

Corey Curtis sang Waiting on the World to Change by John Mayer-- I loved this performance and loved Corey, he seems to really love singing and performing. He is so good! And I am so shocked that no one else turned except Chance. Chance said he gave a great performance, he wants to see him enunciate more and believes he can help him do that. Corey joined Team Chance.

Madison Curbelo sang Stand by Me-- One of my fave performances and voices. She reminds me of Selena for some reason. I loved how she made this song her own. This was a four chair turn-- John turned first, then Dan and Shay, Chance, and lastly Reba turned right at the end. Reba thought she did a great job on the song. John suggests the album title, "Finding Madison". Chance talked a lot about Madison's cool energy. Dan and Shay said she radiated light and joy and her voice was flawless. Madison chose Dan and Shay.

Episode 4:

Anya True sang Until I Found You by Steven Sanchez-- Interesting song choice. She does have an indie rocker sound. She could be a dark horse in the competition. Chance and Dan and Shay turned. Dan and Shay loved her vulnerability and said she has an Olivia Rodrigo vibe. They believe she could win this. Chance loved her falsetto and wants to learn more about her. Anya chose Dan and Shay.

William Alexander sang Ceilings by Lizzy McAlpine-- This young man is so talented. Wow! His voice is so gentle yet powerful and full of emotion. Chance and Reba turned pretty quickly. Reba said his voice is a beautiful gift. Chance looked so moved and excited about William's performance. He complimented his control and unique tone. William chose Reba.

Alyssa Crosby sang Hand in my Pocket by Alanis Morrissette-- Reba was the only one who turned. I need to agree with Dan and Shay on this one, she was a little too pitchy. Alyssa joined Team Reba.

Rletto sang Golden Hour by JVKE-- He is giving me all sorts of Michael Jackson vibes. I loved his version of this song. Chance turned early and Reba at the last minute. I loved how he ended the song. Reba complimented his runs and vocals. Chance felt his runs were intentional and he said he loves doing big songs. Rletto chose Chance.

Bri Fletcher sang I'm With You and joined Team Chance

Rob Cole-- no one turned

Mafe sang Besame Mucho-- Mafe is just amazing! It will be great to hear her sing something contemporary. Being on The Voice is about being yourself but also having versatility. This was such a great four chair turn. Chance said she has extreme talent. Reba said Mafe touched her heart and soul. John called it thrilling and magical. Shay said Mafe is proof that music is the universal language. Chance surprisingly told Mafe that she should choose Team Legend.
