The Voice Season 29: What Were These Finals Made For?

Team Adam: Alexia Jayy sang Lady Marmalade by Patti LaBelle-- Alexia is one of my favorites of the season and this performance is among my favorite of hers. I think it's an easy song to oversing and sshe didn't do that. Kelly said I have heard that song so many times before but not the way you sing it. John said you sing like a star. Adam said the headline through all these moments and performances was you. There's no one like you.

Team Kelly: Mikenley Brown sang Almost is Never Enough by Ariana Grande-- Her vocal was amazing on this song. Wow! I have been up and down with her, but I am a fan of this performance. Adam said I am a fan of yours-- I love your voice, I love your tone, I love you. Kelly said what she does is so special.

Team Legend: Lucas West sang Cold As Ice by Foreigner-- He always picks the best songs for himself. This was no exception. Adam said I love you and I am a fan of you. Kelly also loved it. John said your voice sounded more powerful and more clear, beautifully done.

Team Kelly: Liv Ciara sang The Greatest by Billie Eilish-- Gorgeous performance; Liv is so mature beyond her years, vocally, just so poised. She performs like she came to win the competition. John said, she's 16, you took us through the emotions of this song so beautifully, it was so raw and honest. Kelly said we were not here at 16, and Adam said, I was a pimple.

Team Kelly: Mikenley Brown sang Man I Need by Olivia Dean-- John said you're just singing everything in your style and I think that's so cool. Adam said she is solidifying her status after the show.

Team Legend: Lucas West sang Ordinary People by John Legend-- Love him singing this, and he did justice to the musicality, piano, and vocals. Wow! Gorgeous! Adam said not only am I happy, you did it unreal, that is the purity of you. Kelly said you went from Foreigner to John Legend, so good! John said you said your mom used to play these songs for you, and I felt something with that performance today.

Team Kelly: Liv Ciara sang What a Girl Wants by Christina Aguilera-- I love how she changed up the song. It sounds amazing and like a new song in a way. Amazing vocals and strong identity. John said I am so excited for where you're going to go. Adam said you changed it up and that was amazing. Kelly said she is ready to be a popstar.

Team Adam: Alexia Jayy sang One and Only by Adele-- Technically the best singer in this competition; Alexia just sounded amazing. Kelly said you are so good, you're like a vessel, that was so good. That was like a therapudic release that I needed. I love Adele bu damn, promise me you'll never cover my songs. John said you are a blessing. Adam said you make people reflect and feel more together and communal; thanks for being a messenger.

Duets:

Kelly and Liv sang Stay by Rihanna and Mikky Ekko

The Voice Season 29: The Semi Finals Reach Higher Ground

The finalists will be voted by the audience which is made up of "super fans" and Voice alumni.

Team Legend: KJ Willis sang Higher Ground by Stevie Wonder-- This was a perfect song for KJ. I loved this, perfect song for the rasp in his voice. Adam said KJ has grown on him. Kelly said this was a hell of a start to the semifinals. John said KJ has grown in his confidence.

Team Kelly: Mikenley Brown sang I'm Not the Only One by Sam Smith-- I liked this performance for her, but I would say for me, she is not my favorite voice on this season. I agree with Kelly, this was her personal best of the season, John said this as well, and Adam called it really beautiful.

Team Adam: Jeremy Keith sang Whip Appeal by Babyface-- Amazing song choice for Jeremy. I feel like a lot of people don't choose this because it's so difficult to sing and so stylized by Babyface. He did justice to this; this was such an elevated and technically sound vocal. Kelly said Jeremy you make it look so easy, but what you're doing is incredibly difficult. John said this was his favorite performance this season, you were clean at the beginning. Adam said Jeremy you performed exactly what you wanted with that vocal. He delivered.

Team Legend: Syd Millevoi sang Into You by Ariana Grande-- Definitely her best vocal of the season. Wowza! I loved how there were little flaws throughout the vocal. It just made it real and special. Adam said you've got range girl, dang. We wanted you to be connected to the song and not perfect. Kelly said I am a huge fan of your voice and I can't wait to see what you do. John said she is tapping into the artist not just the singer. He talked about the song being stripped down, but it's not a sad song, it's a song about seduction and she's asserting her power.

Team Adam: Jared Shoemaker sang Soulshine by the Allman Brothers-- Another, "best of" performance. Kelly said you get a little better every week. John said that was compelling, really good. Adam said there's something iconic about you. You have this beautiful voice, there's a hybrid between rock and roll and country going on. Adam said he calls Jared, Captain Consistent.

Team Kelly: Liv Ciara sang Flashdance What a Feeling by Irene Cara-- What a gorgeous vocal and arrangement, I have no idea how she had that poise at 16. John said that was a superstar performance. Adam said I keep having to remind myself that you're not on my team. Kelly said I am so excited to be a tiny part of what you're doing out there. John said Liv might win this show. We're all in awe, you had a breakout moment today, Adam said after her performance.

Team Adam: Alexia Jayy sang I Never Loved a Man the Way I Love You by Aretha Franklin-- Her voice transcends anyone else in this competition. It's like she is from a different time. Her voice is just ridiculous. Kelly said I have been looking forward to this song. I don't like anyone singing it, but you can sing it any damn day. John said I love you so much, I love your creative energy, you're an artist's artist. Adam said you have like the best voice in the world and I'm like a superfan right now.

Team Kelly: JW Griffin sang Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground-- This was a beautiful performance; however, I do not see this moving him to the finals. Adam said you it would be great to see you make an album. Kelly said she cannot wait to work with him after this is over.

Team Legend: Lucas West sang Maybe I'm Amazed by Paul McCartney-- Lucas has been one of my favorites since the blinds. I just love his voice so much. Adam said the song requires everything of the person singing it. I loved how you brought out those big moments. There's something about your voice that's super compelling. Kelly said very few people I'd go see at a stadium, and I think you'd crush it. John said you're a real artist and a real pianist with chops. You deliver electric energetic performances.  I like how artistic and competitive you are.

Finalists Chosen by "super fans" and Voice Alums:

Team Adam: Alexia Jayy
Team Legend: Lucas West
Team Kelly: Liv Ciara and Mikenley Brown

The Voice Season 29: The Knockouts Continue Time After Time

Team Adam: Jared Shoemaker singing Modern Day Bonnie and Clyde by Travis Tritt vs. Jaali Boyd singing Big Girls Don't Cry by Fergie-- Both performances were incredibly soulful. I love both of these people. I am so sad that one has to go home. I'd give the edge to Jared. Kelly would choose Jared and John would choose Jaali. Adam said Jaali killed it and maximized the potential; Jared, I get a real sense of who you want to be as an artist.
Adam chose Jared

Team Legend: Grace Humphries singing I Don't Wanna Wait by Paula Cole vs. KJ Willis singing I'll Make Love to You by Boyz II Men-- There was potential for Grace's performance to be great, but I believe KJ bested her. His performance was genuine and he seemed to really connect to the song. John said KJ's performance was believable. He said it was like a devotional at church but with a song about earthly pleasures.
John chose KJ

Team Kelly: Jonah Mayor singing You'll Be in My Heart by Phil Collins vs. Mikenley Brown singing Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan-- For me, I felt like Mikenley was too outside the box for me. I would need to go with Jonah if it were me. John said you're both so talented; he thought Mikenley won the knockout. Kelly said Jonah your passion on stage is so committed, you're so special; Mikenley no one is like you.
Kelly chose Mikenley

All Star Teams:

Team Legend: Maelyn (Season 16) and Renzo (Season 27)

Team Kelly: Jake Hoot (Season 17) and Girl Named Tom (Season 21)

Team Adam: Jordan Smith (Season 9) and Javier Colon (Season 1)

Kelly vs. John-- Girl Named Tom singing Dust in the Wind by Kansas vs. Renzo singing Dream On by Aerosmith--
Adam said Girl Named Tom, that was mind blowing; Renzo, John blocked me and it broke my heart. Kelly said Renzo, you're incredible, and Girl Named Tom there is nothing like you in my life. John said Girl Named Tom, I measure every group against you, and Renzo I am proud that you are representing Team Legend. Cee Lo said that Girl Named Tom is his resolve and Renzo is his reflection. Renzo represents him whereas Girl Named Tom represents this time in music that is almost extinct, three party harmony, representative of the 60s and Crosby, Stills, and Nash.
My pick:  Girl Named Tom
Cee Lo chose Girl Named Tom

John vs. Adam-- Maelyn singing Fields of Gold by Sting vs. Jordan Smith singing Chandelier by Sia-- Kelly said you two are masters of being vocalists. John said this show exists for people like you. Adam said Maelyn said you put so much effort into your performances. Adam said when you sing the hairs on my arm stand up. Cee Lo said it's such an honor to be here with both of you. You're both one of one. Thank you both for being spirit animals of us all.
My pick: Jordan Smith
Cee Lo chose Maelyn

Adam vs. Kelly-- Javier Colon singing Time After Time vs. Jake Hoot singing Desperado-- John said Jake of all the male country artists, you are the best one. Javier, I can see why this song and your gift made Adam believe this show would work; that was beautiful. Adam said, I don't have to know country to know you're the real deal Jake; like a fine wine you have aged well Javier, love you bro so much. Kelly said Javier, you voice is beautifully broken; Jake, you're not just a good singer, you're a good man. Cee Lo, I enjoyed myself. Javier said that was iconic; Jake you killed it.
My pick: Toss up, but I lean with Javier Colon
Cee Lo chose Jake

Your Top 9:

*Team Kelly will receive an extra finalist due to winning the "All Star Showdown" (yet to be named)

Team Kelly: JW Griffin, Liv Ciara, Mikenley Brown
Team Adam: Alexia Jayy, Jared Shoemaker, Jeremy Keith
Team Legend: Lucas West, Syd Millevoi, KJ Willis

The Voice Season 29: Let Me Down Easy with These Amazing Blind Auditions

JW Griffin sang Long Haired Country Boy by Charlie Daniels-- I love how JW has that throw back country voice, tried and true, like a George Strait or a Chris Stapleton. Kelly turned first, and before I knew it, it was a triple turn. Adam made his plea being honest and saying he understood that he would not be the obvious choice. He did say he got to know Blake over the years and that they are an explosive combo. Kelly talked about her ability to be a country crossover artist. John asked JW about himself and what he does.
JW chose Kelly

Nicolette Capua sang You Broke Me First by Tate McRae-- The song choice was awesome but she sounded a little flat. No one turned.

Tia Durant sang Midnight Train to Georgia by Gladys Knight and the Pips-- Kelly and Adam turned at the same time, I was waiting for John to turn! She was a little pitchy at first but she fixed it.
Tia chose Kelly

Kendra Remedios sang Girl Crush by Little Big Town-- The arrangement of the song was cool. I liked how she did not do it exactly as the original. Adam said there were some issues that kept him from pushing but he said that was irrelevant because John Legend is your coach. Kelly said she loved her tone but she has several country artists on her team. John said he loved the attitude and the crackle in her voice. John chose Kendra

Mike Steele sang For Tonight by Giveon-- Mike is the real deal, "real deal Steele". He has awesome tone, and I love how he interpreted the song. His range was cool too, how he went down low and went into the high. He is bringing back that 90s R&B style. All the coaches quickly turned. John liked the choices he made and felt like his tone was interesting. John said we could have a lot of fun working together. Adam said you suit is fresh. Adam wants to help him grow his upper register. Kelly said I grew up on the artists you mentioned. But she wants to stretch Mike and challenge him to sing songs from artists outside of his wheelhouse.
Mike chose John

Bijou Belle sang Wildflower by Billie Eilish-- Bijou sounded absolutely gorgeous and I think Kelly and John are NUTS for not turning. Kelly said she didn't push cause of the pitch issues. I feel like considering that she is 17, that's natural. Adam turned for her tone and that something special he heard in her voice.
Adam chose Bijou

Jaali Boyd sang No Air by Jordin Sparks and Chris Brown-- I loved how she navigated the highs and lows of the song. Kelly and Adam turned. Adam said he felt like that performance was just the beginning for her. Kelly liked how she performed to the audience and promised to challenge her if she picks her as a coach.
Jaali chose Adam

Blaire Elbert sang Wide Rolling Plains by Rosalie Allen--  I liked how the performance started out, and I did like the yodeling but I felt by a certain point, she lost control of the performance. Kelly was the only one to turn. John liked the rasp in her voice. He said you add in the yodeling and you're really interesting. Adam said he was enjoying the performance, but when he heard the yodeling he felt he could not compete. Blaire and Kelly immediately related on both being from Texas. Kelly was so excited to gain Blaire for her team. Only two more spots til her team is full.
Kelly chose Blaire

Adi Arora sang It Will Rain by Bruno Mars-- Song started out strong and soulful. I liked how he did not sing it exactly like Bruno. He did make it his own a little bit and take some creative license. I loved when he went into the falsetto. John and Kelly turned. I was surprised that by the end, Adam did not turn! Adam said ultimately he should not have gotten hung up on the things he did because he has a great voice. John said that he turned way before Kelly and he related to Adi as they both have background in acapella. Kelly felt like what makes Bruno special is the little bit of wild and passion, and she encouraged Adi to make sure he incorporates that.
Adi chose John

Moses G sang Forever Young by Rod Stewart-- Such an interesting song choice, he did actually work to showcase his voice well. I enjoy Moses and his style. Kelly said the only thing that kept her from hitting her button was a little too much vibrato. Adam said he heard some grit, rasp, R&B, rock n' roll, he heard it all.
Adam chose Moses G

Chezzarai sang I'm Every Woman by Chaka Kahn--Oh wow, I hope she kills this performance, I love this song. No one turned. I think what the coaches were suggesting was that maybe the song was too big.

Hunter Jordan sang Let Me Down Easy by Billy Currington-- What I loved the most about that was the emotion in his voice. He is singing from his heart. Adam said you're gonna break the mold and do what no country singer has done, you're gonna choose me as your coach. Kelly asked him what type of music he listens to and related to him and said I would love for you to choose team Kelly. Adam said you had effortless smooth power, that's the sound of a good voice, and that's what goes far on this show.  On this triple turn....
Hunter chose Adam

My picks: JW Griffin, Mike Steele, Bijou Belle, and Hunter Jordan

My previous picks for my team: My picks-- Alexia Jayy, Abigayle Oakley, Jonah Mayor, Bay Simpson, and Jeremy Keith

The Voice Season 29, Season of Champions: The Blinds Begin with New Twists

Season 29 of The Voice started this past Monday. First off, I need to tip my hat to last season's winner, Aiden Ross from Team Niall. I didn't blog the last show, I felt like it crept up so quickly. I will be curious to see how this season unfolds. First off, there are some obvious changes-- three coaches instead of four. This season is titled, Season of Champions. The coaches are Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Adam Levine. They will each be bringing back two contestants from their respective teams over the years. Kelly is bringing back Girl Named Tom (Season 21) and Jake Hoot (Season 17). Adam is bringing back Jordan Smith (Season 9) and Javier Colon (the first winner ever on The Voice). John is bringing back Maelyn Jarmon (Season 16) and Renzo (Season 27). There will not be live shows this season which I find strange and Cee Lo Green will be returning in some capacity.

Lucas West sang Benny and the Jets by Elton John-- Loved the confidence in this performance, lots of ease. Adam turned, followed by John. I am surprised that Kelly did not turn on this one. Adam liked how different Lucas is, and John called him soulful, saying that quality made him want Lucas on Team Legend.

Lucas chose John

Alexia Jay sang You Make Me Feel Like a Natural Woman by Aretha Franklin-- Rightfully the first triple turn of the season. I feel like anyone who can successfully sing this is a technically sound vocalist. John said she is his type of singer and likes her voice and style. Adam said Carole King (songwriter) and Aretha came together on this song as two very different artists and maybe you, flower goddess you are, are meant to have this journey with someone that not everybody would expect. Kelly praised her for choosing such a difficult song. Alexia brought her son onstage and he said that Maroon 5 is his favorite artist.

Alexia chose Adam!

Julia Golden sang Strawberry Wine by Deana Carter-- I felt like she gave a pretty sound performance. At 19, she has some growth ahead of her. Goog song choice. John and Kelly turned. John turned first and said her voice has a lot of heart. Kelly basically made the argument that she should land most country artists in the competition. John played a video of Reba saying he would be a good coach for country artists. Kelly got Reba on the phone to get her endorsement.

Julia chose Kelly.

Abigayle Oakley sang Call Your Girlfriend by Robyn-- I loved the song choice, one of my fave songs. However, I felt like the arrangement could have been better. I do praise her though for originality and being authentic to herself. All three coaches turned right away. Adam said there is something special about her. Kelly compared her to Joni Mitchell and urged her to keep choosing songs people would not expect. John reassured her that there is a lane for singer/ songwriters like her in this competition.

Abigayle chose Kelly

\Landon Price sang Glory by John Legend and Common, no chair turns

Jonah Mayor sang Il Mondo-- Such a captivating performance. I really like Jonah's personality as well. He's the complete package in my opinion. Kelly turned immediately and genuinely seemed excited about Jonah and his performance. Adam turned as well. Kelly went up and hugged Jonah and said he is her favorite performance thus far. Adam joked saying, "Welcome to Team Kelly" (foreshadowing). Adam went up and hugged him too, followed by John (LOL). Adam felt that what Jonah does is singular and there will not be anyone like him in the competition. Jonah did point out to Kelly that he does want to do other things. Adam called him the complete package as a performer and singer.
Jonah chose Kelly

Bay Simpson sang The Waiting by Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers-- I like his voice and I think there's potential. He does seem to have music in his bones. In the final moments of the performance, Adam turned. I am really happy he did, cause I look forward to seeing what Bay can do. Adam said I have never really heard someone do a Petty song, well the big ones, but that one said something about you that I really took to. He said he is happy it happened the way it did so he didn't have to fight for him. He said the way you took on the song told me you know Rock n' Roll music.

Adam chose Bay

Liv Ciara sang We Can't Be Friends by Ariana Grande-- Liv was on the show before and came back. She sounds amazing. Clearly she improved a lot and took the notes that they gave her last time. Adam and Kelly turned. Adam thinks she is advanced vocally being that she's so young. Kelly talked about how much she loves that Ariana song and that the way Liv sang the song gave it a different perspective. Adam almost in a way conceded.
Liv chose Kelly

Aaron LaVigne sang Feels Like the First Time by Foreigner-- Aaron has performed on Broadway, you can see he has performance experience on stage. This is a big song. Alright, towards the end, Kelly and John turned. I definitely heard some flaws in the performance, but I feel like he can be fine tuned. Kelly said she could tell that he is passionate about singing, and she pointed out that she turned first. John said by the end of the performance he was impressed and that's why he turned. Aaron talked about how he and John both played Jesus in renditions of Jesus Christ Superstar. They both talked about their connections to Ohio. Adam said you have two great coaches to choose from. You have, Kelly "I picked you first" Clarkson and John "I'm from Ohio" Legend.
Aaron chose Kelly

AJ Robinson sang Watermelon Moonshine by Lainey Wilson--  This is another artist where I see potential. It's interesting that John turned, but I will look forward to what this pairing comes up with in the next round. John turned almost immediately, and Adam and Kelly did not push. John loved his tone, how his voice floats, and the richness.
John chose AJ

Jeremy Keith sang You Are My Lady by Freddie Jackson-- Smooth performance, he sang in the group After 7. That is so cool! This was another "triple turn" as they're calling it this season. John turned first, followed by Adam, and lastly Kelly. John loved his tone. Adam said, John makes the most sense for you. He said you're not a background vocalist anymore. Adam said I have a lot of experience on The Voice. Kelly said but you haven't won a lot. John said what's the point of this? Adam said, see I'm a threat. Kelly said I know I can hand you any song cause of your experience as a background vocalist. Kelly said I think you could win this show. Jeremy said he and his mom listened to John's album, "Get Lifted" a lot. John got on stage and sang Ordinary People with Jeremy.

Jeremy shockingly chose Adam!

My picks-- Alexia, Abigayle, Jonah, Bay, and Jeremy

The Voice Season 27 Finale: The Performance Show

Round 1:

Team Legend: Renzo sang Fly by Lenny Kravitz-- I have been critical of Renzo throughout this but I have to say that he has proven to me that he deserves to be here. What a great song choice and I love how he started the song acoustically, it was more quiet for sure and really showed his voice quite well. Michael said there was not a lot to say and that the performance was flawless. John said the arrangement, which Renzo elected, showed his voice beautifully.

Team Adam: Lucia Flores Wiseman sang Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd-- Wow that was beautiful. I loved the way she navigated that song. She's so original. Kelsea said you embody the love letter you wrote to music, you're supposed to be here. Adam said I feel so connected to you. You lead with heart and you lead with feeling. I'm so proud of you.

Team Buble: Jadyn Cree sang Lose You to Love Me by Selena Gomez-- I liked this song choice for Jadyn, I brought out some of her innocence. Michael said he is so proud of her and happy for her, her voice is kind, empathetic, pure, and she is a pop star.

Team Kelsea: Jaelen Johnston sang What Was I Thinkin' by Dierks Bentley-- Okay I will first say that had to be so tough to mess up on live TV, but he kept going. He stopped for a second and kept going. I think that was his most challenging performance, but I believe he will watch it back and be proud of himself. He persevered. Kelsea said you showed up and I am so proud of you, you locked back in, got back in your body quickly.

Team Buble: Adam David sang You Are So Beautiful by Joe Cocker-- What a great performance, it showed the versatility in Adam's voice. John talked about that beautiful broken quality in Adam's voice and added-- you did a beautiful song much justice tonight. Michael said he is one of my favorite singers, he's a blue collar singer, he's worked his butt off, he plays in bars.

Round 2:

Team Adam: Lucia Flores Wiseman sang Wildflower by Billie Eilish-- I feel like her performances are so poetic and prolific. Adam said that was so amazing, Lucia is not the typical type of Voice winner which is exactly why she should win.

Team Buble: Adam David sang Hard Fought Hallelujah by Brandon Lake and Jelly Roll-- This is such a gorgeous song and any time any one sings it I have heard so much heart and sincerity behind it and this was so exception. Michael said I am shaken, 100/100, we are blessed to be given music like this.

Team Buble: Jadyn Cree sang Come On Eileen by Dexys Midnight Runners-- This was one of the most creative performances I have seen on the show. The song is also pretty iconic. It's like she took us back to a moment in history and froze it. Michael said you're a pop star, I love you, you lead with light.

Team Legend: Renzo sang Lover You Should Have Come Over by Jeff Buckley--Wow, what an exquisite vocal. He just knows how to bring you into his world with his performances. John said he showed something new in his voice today. You are a superstar and I am so happy I got this chance to work with you.

Team Kelsea: Jaelen Johnston sang Cold by Chris Stapleton-- I loved this song for him. He seemed like he was totally immersed in the performance. It was honestly such a great way for us to hear that natural rasp that he has in his voice. Kelsea said I am out of breath and I am sweating. She said, Jaelen picked this song, and she was nervous, but when he sang it in rehearsal she knew it was the right song for him.

The Voice Season 27: It's Getting Harder to Breathe with these Knockouts...

Team Buble: Divighn sang Harder to Breathe by Maroon 5 vs. Kaiya Hamilton sang Here by Aleesia Cara-- These two are well matched and both should move forward. I am fan of Harder to Breathe, but I have to say, hearing Divighn singing it, I felt like I was hearing it for the first time. I loved the sharpness of his words and the performance as a whole. He worked the stage as well which is difficult to do while keeping up the vocal. Kaiya took on this song so well, this is a tough one, and she navigated it with ease and sounded amazing. She's probably one of the most technically gifted singers in this competition. Adam recognized his song and loved what Divighn did with it. He said Kaiya sang her butt off. Kelsea said Kaiya ebbed and flowed with the song, and it sounded different to her than the original which she said was Kaiya's artistry coming through. She said Songs About Jane is one of her fave albums and complimented Divighn on his performance.  Michael chose Kaiya.. thinking about it, this was the best choice to move forward.

Team Legend: Bryson Battle sang Ain't No Way by Aretha Franklin vs. Tatum Scott sang Stick Season by Noah Kahn-- I am in awe of Bryson's technical abilities as a vocalist. He is just stunning. I loved how he seamlessly kept moving from is falsetto to his full voice. I don't know many that do that as effortlessly. Tatum, as Kelsea noted, gave what was her personal best performance of the competition, she was just up against a beast in Bryson, but she's clearly gifted as a vocalist. Adam said that what they were doing could not have been more different yet there was no clear cut winner. Kelsea said Bryson feels like one of the greats. Michael said he is thankful to be able to witness these amazing performances. John chose Bryson.

Montaged Performance:
Team Kelsea: Alanna Lynise sang I'll Never Love Again by Lady Gaga vs. Page McKenzie (we did not see her performance). Kelsea chose Alanna.

Team Adam: Ari Camille sang Love Like This by Faith Evans vs. Britton Moore sang Free by Zac Brown Band-- Two cool and stylized performances. I like Ari, I've always liked that grit in her voice. It got away from her at times but she ended well. Britton was a revelation, he's grown a lot and could be a front runner based on that performance. Kelsea said Britton your voice is like self auto tuned, and Ari your energy, you came to life. Michael said you're both only 21 years old. Britton, you have youthful beauty and a gorgeous tone. Britton won that. John said Ari, that was your best performance, and Britton, that was pitch perfect. You both earned the right to not leave the competition. Adam said you both did what needed to be done. Adam chose Britton and John stole Ari (she returned to Team Legend).

The Voice Season 27: I Feel Good Watching the Blinds

Here are my thoughts on this week's round of the blinds....

Divighn sang I Feel Good by James Brown-- Talented singer for sure. I want to see him show more of who he is as an artist. The performance seemed a little karaoke. Kelsea and Michael turned. Divign picked Team Buble.

Skip.... Jacquelyn George sang I Have Nothing by Whitney Houston-- killer song, but she did not have the enunciation and vocal chops for this one. Adam and John turned and she chose John.

I am on the fence in regard to Tinika Wyatt. She sang Sorry Not Sorry by Demi Lovato-- I thought it was a great performance but I wonder if she can navigate through this competition and grow. No one turned but Adam used his Coach's Replay.

Page Mackenzie sang Hell on Heels by Pistol Annies-- Absolutely loved the song choice, she's good, we need a good female country rocked in this competition. Kelsea and Michael turned. Not surprisingly, she chose Kelsea.

Conor James sang Say A Little Prayer by Dionne Warwick-- WOW! First off didn't know he is from Bridgewater, MA, shout out! Second his voice is phenomenal. I loved the performance, and I loved how he made it his own and was so confident. John and Michael turned right off the bat, then Kelsea, and then Adam. John asked him about where he is from and what he does. He talked about musical theater and playing piano which John said is just like him. Michael said he would love to work with just to have fun and experience him. Kelsea said I am obsessed with you, you're so in your body. Adam said you're a true testament to true originality is blind. There's a characteristic and spirit to what people who I have won with have and I think you can win this thing. You can win this show and I want you bad on my team.  Conor said he had an idea who he would pick coming in if everyone turned and he went with that choice and it was Adam.

Another one I am on the fence about, Jessica Manalo sang Unholy by Sam Smith-- I love the way she flipped this song, the interpretation is ingenious but is she like a "one hit wonder"? Can she duplicate this? Will all her performances be this original? Michael and Kelsea turned. Kelsea made a girl power pitch and Jessica chose Kelsea.

Barry Fontenot sang I Wish it Would Rain by The Temptations-- Michael was the only one who turned and he may have picked up a dark horse in this competition. He has a great sound, similar to Teddy Swims, could be someone who sings classic Motown or R&B or top 40.

Tyler Kae sang Girls Just Want to Have Fun-- I was a skeptic on this one but she was impressive as heck! I am normally not a fan of someone singing this song in a competition but she made it her own, it was melodic and different, pretty even. Adam quickly turned and blocked Kelsea who followed behind and Tyler is on Team Adam.

BDii sang Adorn by Miguel-- Rightful four chair turn. This performance was technically skilled, sexy, and confident. Michael turned first, followed by Kelsea who blocked Adam who turned next, John turned last. The mistake Kelsea made is that she blocked the wrong person. I knew he would pick John and he did.

The Voice Season 27: Forgive My Northern Attitude, It's the Blinds

Season 27 of The Voice started last week. Michael Buble returned for his second season, John Legend returned from a brief hiatus. Kelsea Ballerini joined the show as a new coach and OG coach Adam Levine returned.

I was underwhelmed by the premiere. There were many contestants that I did not think were that great, four chair turn worthy, not worthy of a turn at all that got a turn. It was interesting to me.

I'm going to skip over the ones I wasn't impressed with.

Skip... Grace Miller Moody sang Sunday Morning by Maroon Five-- shocking four chair turn, Grace picks Adam

Renzo sang Simple Man by Lynard Skynard-- Remember Dennis Lorenzo from American Idol Top 10 Season 16? He has a pure voice, this did not show off his falsetto which is perhaps the best part of his voice, but his purity gets him on the show. John blocks Adam. All the guys turn, and Renzo picks John Legend.

Iris Herrera sang You Are My Sunshine-- Seemed like an odd choice but she got three chairs, everyone except Adam. I like how she gave it like a country / folk vibe. She has a nice personal connection to the song and she chose Kelsea.

Jadyn Cree is Bryan Olesen's daughter (he was a finalist two seasons ago), she sang Into You by Paramore-- Michael and Kelsea turned and she picked Michael. I like Jadyn's voice, she has a Hayley Williams and Amy Lee vibe to her. I would love to see her do some rock songs, and I think she can go far in the competition.

Skip.... Darius J sang Caught Up by Usher, he choice team Adam.

Skip.... Angie Rey sang Penthouse by Kelsea Ballerini, only Kelsea turned.

Skip.... Carlos Santiago sang Right Here Waiting by Richard Marx, Adam and Michael turned and Carlos chose Team Buble.

Skip....  Dan Kiernan sang High Hopes by Panic at the Disco, John and Michael turned and Kelsea used  her coach's replay, and Dan chose Kelsea.

Ethan Eckenroad sang Northern Attitude by Noah Kahan-- Adam said it would be a tragedy if you weren't on my team. This was a four chair turn that was a deserved four chair turn. John loved his poise and soulfulness. Michael called him "good music". Ethan chose Adam!

Same thing with Week 2 of Blinds... I am going to skip performances that were underwhelming to me.

Skip.... Tatum Scott sang Vampire by Olivia Rodrigo-- I wasn't crazy about the way she changed up the song. Kelsea and John turned and Tatum picked Kelsea.

Bryson Battle sang A Song For You by Donny Hathaway-- He's only 21! Kelsea said you were just singing from your soul. This was a well deserved four chair turn. Michael loved his voice and said he sings that song, and wishes he could sing it like him. Adam said it's incredible what you do. Adam said it will be about song selection. John said I was the first to turn. He said that he made the song feel new, fresh, and exciting. Bryson chose Team Legend.

Skip.... Jordan Allen sang Old Time Rock and Roll by Bob Seeger-- John and Michel turned and Jordan chose John.

Hayden Grove sang Mack the Knife by Bobby Darin-- Hayden has such a great voice. I loved the technical lesson that Michael gave showing how the standards singers don't use vibrato in their voices. I am so happy Adam turned and that Michael is offering to help them.

Jaelen Johnston sang Where the Wild Things Are by Luke Combs-- Great voice, he reminds me of like Kane Brown. I was hoping that Adam would turn and he would choose Adam or even Michael because those pairings are unexpected and I think they could help him. Both of them turned, but Kelsea did too, and unsurprisingly he went with Kelsea.

Ricardo Moreno sang Put Your Head on My Shoulder by Paul Anka-- I appreciated Ricardo's musicality and the fact that he sang a "standard". The coaches discussed quite a bit, but no one turned. Michael used his coach's replay on Ricardo.

Ari Camille sang I Wanna Be Down by Brandy-- jury is out on her, I almost skipped, she might end up being interesting, we'll have to see. John and Michael turned. Of course she chose John.

Braxton Garza sang Pretty Little Poison by Warren Zeiders-- Absolutely love his sound! He has that country rocker vibe which the coaches clearly recognized. Kelsea told Adam and Michael not to turn but then took her time turning so Michael blocked her. Braxton is on Team Buble.

Britton Moore sang Yellow by Coldplay-- Wow he is good, well deserved four chair turn, not many of those, but this one, well deserved. Adam turned first and was the only one who did not pull any gimmicks. Britton chose him, and with good reason, this is a match made in heaven.

The ones I featured videos for are the ones I feel confident about in terms of their success on the show.

I just smiled and had some tears at the end, Asher is awesome, I love his confidence and who he is. John said my dad texted me this week and said Asher is the voice. You are the best vocalist in this competition. Reba said you floored me, I am so proud of you, thank you for shining for God, you did such a great job.

Team Dan and Shay: Tae Lewis sang Amazed by Lonestar-- Another great song choice tonight. This is such a good song for Tae. The dynamics were impressive as well. This was a cool arrangement on Lady Gaga's song. The coaches were on their feet. John said Justin and Jeremy you guys are in sync and Frank your voice. John would go with Frank. Reba said so much talent under the age of 20, it reminded her of singing with her family. She would go with Justin and Jeremy. Chance called the performance amazing and said he was hyped at the possibility of working with her. Dani went with Team Chance.

Justin and Jeremy Garcia sang The Story of my Life by One Direction-- Chance, Reba, and Dan and Shay turned around. I need to agree with John on this one. It could have been tighter. Reba was moved by their humility and they took her back to her childhood. Dan and Shay said they are the perfect team for Justin and Jeremy because they're a duo too.

Episode 2:

Nathan Chester sang Take Me to The River by Al Green-- This is one of my fave types of performances. Nathan sounded so throwback to me, he sounded like The Temptations. There was so much gospel influence. I loved the growl in his voice. John turned and then Dan and Shay turned. Chance said he thought Nathan's voice was great but he didn't turn because he had a vision of Nathan being on John's team. John said I turned quickly because I am selective and you've got it. These four chair turn contestants are incredible. John said you had so much finesse and that was so expertly done. John said you and I working together could go far. Dan and Shay said you have so much power and control, you're such a pro. Chance said I was last to turn because I was so invested, your town is so different. Reba said you were working the crowd. Team Reba: Jacquie Roar sang Knights in White Satin by The Moody Blues-- LOVE! Wow! What an amazing song choice. She killed this as well. Team Reba: Ruby Leigh sang Desperado by The Eagles-- Smart song choice, she sounded stunning but didn't overdo it. Wow! Gwen said you just channel so well the intention of the song. Reba said what a great song selection, not many people can do what you do,

Videos to come tomorrow!

Team Gwen: Kara Tenae sang Love by Keyshia Cole-- Shout out to the style department; they are making all these gorgeous women look glamorous! I loved Kara's song choice, and you could tell she is genuinely connected to the song. I felt the love. This is a real deal R&B performance. All four coaches were standing at the end. John said you nailed it, that was iconic; I loved it. Gwen said you are poised and confident and you, pure!

Team Gwen: Tanner Massey sang Thanks for the Memories by Fall Out Boy-- In theory I liked this song for him, but I don't know that the song did anything to showcase his voice in a strong way. Reba said I have always wanted you on my team. Gwen said she is so proud of him, you did such a good job.

Team Legend: Lila Forde sang Closer to Fine by The Indigo Girls-- Lila is one of those artists who unequivocally knows who she is. Like there is absolutely no question. The coaches once again all on their feet. Niall said, Lila Forde, I'm your biggest fan without a shadow of the doubt. Chance said in the video that you sing the lyrics as if you lived it and it happened to you. John said you brought us into your world, you're so special, I believe in you.

Team Reba: Ruby Leigh sang You Lie by Reba McEntire-- Ruby is just so young and it's incredible to me that she turns out such mature and poised performances. Niall said Ruby you are insane. Reba said Gwen and I are balling. I am so proud of you.

Team Niall: Huntley sang With a Little Help from my Friends by Joe Cocker-- I liked the song choice, I felt like the arrangement drowned him out at points. Then there were other points where he was really big and I could hear him loud and clear. John said I feel like you're already a pro; your voice is so powerful. Niall said that was in a different league. Reba and the other coaches were on their feet.

Team Legend: Azan sang Ex Factor by Lauryn Hill-- I am a big fan of Azan and a big fan of Lauryn Hill. I was stoked that  Miss Hill cleared that song. I wanted to hear more passion from her, like I really wanted her to push the vocal and she was just behind it. Well, once again, the coaches are on their feet. I absolutely LOVE that song. Gwen said I am so addicted to the original and for you to move me that way is a big deal. John said I felt everything, your passion and emotion, your voice is golden because it has so much nuance to it.

Team Reba: Jordan Rainer sang There's a Stranger in my House by Ronnie Milsap-- Loved Chance's comment about how she is so eccentric and her dress doesn't match her voice. Niall said another fantastic performance. Reba said you're a star, you conduct yourself on stage and demand attention.

Team Niall: Mara Justine sang Lose Control by Teddy Swims-- This was one of the most real and confident performances of the night. Mara sounded great, and I had never heard the song before but it was super catchy. Loved it. Another incredible performance as Carson said. Niall said Mara that was insane, best you've done it. The confidence you have gained getting to the lives is everything.

Team Legend: Mac Royals sang I Can't Make You Love Me by Bonnie Raitt-- That was a "star studded" performance. The coaches were on their feet. I felt like he felt that song, there was an emotional awareness. I loved how by the end, he was totally comfortable and made the song his own. However, he also maintained the integrity of the song by keeping the melody intact. John said you are elite talent. This man needs a record deal and this man needs to win The Voice, I am so proud of you.

Team Gwen: BIAS sang God's Gonna Cut You Down by Johnny Cash-- This guy is so original. I love him. He has to be a finalist on this show. That was such an inspired performance. Reba said that's why I wanted you on my team, my gosh you're good. Gwen said it's like a dream that you're on my team, I am so excited. You are the purest person I have ever met.

Who could be going home? My bottom three-- Jordan, Tanner, and Nini... I'd be sorry to see Tanner go, I think he is great, I think it was the wrong sonng choice for him. Azan is on the bubble along with Huntley. These two frontrunners gave lackluster performances. Azan's performance lacked passion and Huntley's voice was drowned out by an over productive arrangement at time.
